S3 E15 - TJ, the power of sport and battling stigma through the Roses

from chat chit · host Chris

Every year the University of York and Lancaster University lock horns in the battle of the Roses. This year, they have partnered with York Mind to raise awareness of the mental health struggles and fundraise for the charity. In this episode of chat chit, I (Chris) welcome TJ on to the pod. TJ is the sports officer at the University of York and talks to us all about her mental health struggles alongside her experience of stigma, the positive impact of sport on her mental health and where the Roses partnership came from. We talk about the differing ways stigma manifests in India vs England and how it was for her moving to the UK at 17 for University. We talk cricket, community and the positive impact sport can have alongside ways people can manage with their mental health. TJ sets an example to us all with her sincerity and candor when it comes to talking openly about her experiences and is part of the reason why the Roses partnership with York Mind exists this year.
