He talks to Mark Williams about Lookout Maritime, which he set up last year to contribute towards sustainable business practices in the maritime industry, and he also identifies the particular challenges facing the maritime industry at this point in the energy transitionMartin is well known in the industry. He has over 25 years of practical experience, a great network and a clear understanding of the relationship between the technical, regulatory, political, commercial and sustainability drivers of the various stakeholders in the maritime supply chain. Martin was CEO of RightShip from 2018 to 2021, where he led the digital transformation of products and services to deliver a completely new data platform, algorithm and operational safety benchmark. Before that, Martin ran DNV’s customer engagement and consulting business across West Europe and Africa focused on emission reduction and innovation projects. He was directly involved in the implementation of alternative fuels for the marine industry for over 15 years, including the important practical considerations such as key stakeholder acceptance, safety, and training and wider impacts. He holds a master’s degree in engineering and naval architecture, is a graduate of IMD executive business school and is a qualified marine auditor and ship surveyor.In October 2021, Martin was also appointed as the strategic lead for carbon at the Baltic Exchange and is a serving member of the Baltic Exchange Council.
