S3 Episode 3 - The Ovarian Cancer Project with Kathleen Maxian

from Outstanding Women Leaders · host outstandingwomenleaders

When Kathleen Maxian first got the news that she had Ovarian Cancer, she was shocked. Naturally, this was not news she was expecting, but even worse, she quickly found out a simple genetic test that her sister already took, could have prevented this from happening. The problem--a company filed a patten on a HUMAN GENE and their test failed to detect the gene the first time.  That's right, pharmaceutical companies are patenting genes right now and controlling whoo gets the opportunity to use it, i.e. whoo can afford to take the test. Faced with a 20% chance of survival, Kathleen quickly went to work filming her testimony for the Supreme Court (hoot hoot, RGB!) to prevent this from ever happening to another woman again. Tune in to hear how this brave woman beat the Ovarian Cancer odds not once, but twice and is now dedicating her life and work to helping women with ovarian cancer survive and thrive through her nonprofit, Ovarian Cancer Project.  And help support OWL-standing women whoo need a little love and hope in their lives right now at https://ovariancancerproject.org/
