Mark Dunakin and his wife Angela, who both lost their lives in a 10-year span. Sgt. Dunakin was violently killed while serving as an Oakland Police Officer on March 21, 2009. Within weeks, the goal of raising $60,000 had been reached. Just south of Oakland, Santa Cruz DSA helped raise over $800,000 for the family of Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on June 6, 2020.
