Sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight): This kicks in during stressful situations, increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and preparing the body for action. Parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest): This promotes relaxation, lowers heart rate, and helps the body conserve energy. Mechanisms: Simple practices like deep breathing, grounding techniques using the five senses, and awareness of body sensations can be helpful for managing anxiety. Self-awareness and neuroplasticity: Understanding your personal triggers and nervous system is important. The brain's neuroplasticity allows you to learn and adapt to change your wellness journey. Stress and gut health: Chronic stress can impact digestion, nutrient absorption, and weight gain. Regulating the nervous system can improve gut health. Breathing and alternative therapies: Correct breathing, yoga, and cranial sacral therapy (though viewed with skepticism by some) can be helpful for relaxation and well-being.
