S4: E49 Release Your Mental Load
from Empowering the Working Mom Podcast with Latika Vines · host Latika Vines
How many of us have a hard time balancing life and work, but still have a smile on our face? How many of us struggle with implementing self-care, but we feel fine? So many of us are carrying the mental load of doing everything for work, our family, and our homes alone. We are trying to keep it all together, but deep inside we struggling. And, this has been one (not the top) of the reasons so many working moms have left the workforce in the last year (March 2020 to February 2021) - we are doing too much by ourselves. It is time for us to release the mental load we are carrying to others. We can not be our best selves, if we aren't able to release some of our responsibilities to others, so we can free up mental space for us. In today's episode, our guest Suzanne Brown, shares her personal experience implementing work and life balance. And, when other working moms saw how she was able to implement it, with ease, they wanted her secrets. So, she wrote two books to help working moms, the Mompowerment Guide for Part-time and Full-time working moms. Both books empower working moms to create the work-life balance they crave. Today, Suzanne shares that it is essential for us to release the mental load, or at least share it with our husband (or support system). It includes: Identifying what you care about and why it matters, and making it your priority Identifying what you can control and manage and let go (release) the rest Understand that our self-worth is not tied to what we can not control The conversation with Suzanne was encouraging, inspirational, and valuable and one that should be shared with your sister-moms, girlfriends, and colleagues.
