S4 Ep11: "A New Direction" by Alan James

from The House of Inner Tranquillity Podcast · host The House of Inner Tranquillity Podcast

We ignore our rich inner life, but we can turn our minds inward to see what is immediate and personal. We see that we act according to our characters. The three character types described. We see our minds are very busy and need quieting. This is done in steps. (1) We take refuge in the Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha. (2) We exercise sense restraint, physical and mental. (3) We develop our meditation, mindfulness and concentration sufficient to see the rise and fall of all things, especially the ultimates of existence. We develop the 4 foundations of mindfulness. Insight arises through watching the 3 marks and attachment falls away. Alan James founded the House of Inner Tranquillity, along with his wife Jacqui James in 1980. He continued to teach the way to enlightenment until his retirement in 2010.  This talk was originally given in February 2003
