Welcome back to Hip Hop History this week we are getting into the fourth pillar of hip hop. This week it is all about the emcee. From DJ Kool Herc being his own emcee, to who is widely considered the first emcee, Coke La Rock. to game changers like Sugar Hill Gang, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Crime Mob and Migos. Rap has changed so much in the 50 years since its inception, but also has held on to some of the things that made rap, rap. Listen to this episode and find out the songs that were rap before rap, from the ground work laid in gospel music and rock n' roll, to pop acts who made it to billboard before a real rap track could. We have added snippets of tracks from way before 1974 to current day tracks and show the evolution of what an emcee is.
