The Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye represents a thousand years of power, art, and architecture. Birthplace of kings, hunting lodge, fortress, Renaissance palace, it became the cradle of classicism before being transformed into a museum, the National Archaeology Museum, inaugurated by Napoleon III.At the heart of the château is a jewel: the palatine chapel. A masterpiece of Rayonnant Gothic architecture, bathed in light, it inspired the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.The castle was also a theater of war, splendor, and abandonment.
