S6 Episode 2: No Man Is An Island with Chris Burris, LMFT

from NotYourOrdinaryParts · host Jalon Johnson

Chris Burris is a psychotherapist, consultant, educator, and Senior Lead Trainer for the IFS Institute. For more than three decades, Chris has dedicated his life to understanding what helps people heal, not only as individuals; but as human beings in relationship with one another. Throughout his career, Chris has worked in community agencies, residential treatment programs, institutions of higher learning, private practice, and has trained thousands of therapists around the world. He’s become known for his ability to bring warmth, humanity, and accessibility to some of the most complex aspects of healing; what is more, his work has helped expand the Internal Family Systems model in ways that are more culturally sensitive, relevant, and available to people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. What makes Chris's work so compelling is that he continually reminds us of something many of us have forgotten: healing is not simply an individual journey; human beings are shaped in relationships, wounded in relationships; and often, we heal in relationships. Whether Chris is teaching therapists, facilitating groups, or helping people reconnect with themselves, he returns again and again to the transformative power of being witnessed, understood, and accepted without judgment. His latest work, “Creating Healing Circles,” reflects that lifelong commitment and it is an invitation to rediscover something that modern life often pulls us away from - authentic human connection. In a world where loneliness, isolation, and disconnection have become increasingly common, Chris challenges us to imagine what it looks like and what becomes possible when people gather together with openness, courage, and compassion.Connect with Chris:Instagram - @burris.counselingWebsite - https://burriscounseling.comIs there a guest you’d love to see on @notyourordinaryparts? Maybe you’ve done such a good job of “managing for so long” having to do something different or talk to someone can feel uncomfortable. The idea of therapy, to me, felt like I had to admit that there was something wrong with me or that I’d be showing the world that I was broken or didn't have it all together… but when my health started to suffer, and I was anxious 24/7… I realized my body was trying to tell me something was wrong and I learned that there is no “good health” without mental health. Therapy was the answer for me, it helped me put down all of the heavy things that I was carrying that didn’t belong to me. While therapy can provide so much relief, finding a therapist can feel so daunting.
