That means the build code! And welcome to another episode of Red and Red, I'm your host, my guest, my everyone. And no, back, sorry I'm over here to the host, ulti-one, can I wait finally? And very special guest from the Friends of the Force podcast is Brad.
This is our empty guys. We're doing our silly house and I'm doing it. Surviving this week of the like, the support group that we have today. Yeah, thanks to our inviting us on this episode, so we could have this group therapy because we definitely need it.
No, but seriously, thanks so much for having us doing well. to be talking about Star Wars with you guys today. Yeah. Yeah, I'm excited to be here.
Yeah, we're now going to throw out a tweet a couple of last month or something. Hey, I'm kind of making a list for people to go on the show. You guys were one of the first to respond. So I'm going to get them on the show.
So thank you for being here. Oh, you also, how have you been doing? It's been a while. It's been like a month since we last start.
How am I doing? I'm disappointed. Alberto, no spoiler warning, no nothing. We just start out with a massive spoiler and maybe you stumble into the show and you know, Jackie said and it's very disappointed.
Things have gone to hell since I left. Yeah, well. I'm so sorry you guys are here to see this. It's your fault.
You should know. You know, things are here. I keep spoilers out for one day and then tell me to be better than the official account. But once the official account starts doing all spoilers and like everything's.
Yeah, I think we also hit that week where like I think there are spoilers that people know can say hush hush for a couple of days. And I feel like this was the week where I was like, sorry, if you didn't see it, Tuesday night, you're kind of out like we've just opened the floodgates. It's like the red wedding. It's so jover like we're out.
It's your word. Well, it's your word. Yeah, I tell the same thing is I see what Twitter is doing. If just one or two people are putting spoilers.
Okay, let's keep quiet. But this one is 945. It's like everything's online. So I try to hold it.
Yeah, I'm terrified because next week when the show launches, I'll be on a plane. So I'll probably won't be able to watch. So I'll probably have to pay for Wi-Fi just to. Oh, no.
You're not sure money. We thought you get it. Oh, I can probably expense that. Yeah, I can probably expense that.
Yeah. We'll talk about it more off air. You know, make sure you've got that all works out. Put it on the Michael Theodore Mouse Rewards card.
All right. Before we start, I actually want to use that transition. I'm playing your set on Tuesday. Hopefully you've landed by Wednesday because on Wednesday, we have a very special show.
Finally confirmed. We're going to have so was author. That's a great one here live Wednesday at 5 p.m. Eastern.
So everyone out there, make sure to have read and take short before before the store. Back of the seat. Probably already have it as a finish yet. Have those.
Hi, I'll say the following. I'm going a very meeting. I just powered through 120 pages of the final storm. There you go.
Wow. I have like 300 more. Oh, and another book to go through. But these books move fast, both by the storm and temptation.
You'll be ready. You'll be set. You start that one. So.
Yeah. So good. Yeah. You did it with convergence.
You can do it again. I did it with convergence. I did it with path of vengeance. I did it with path of vengeance was like the hardest one.
Like that was a big, big book and I powered through it in one day. Just for the right. So everyone that's watching us out there for the first time. Thank you for being here.
Make sure you subscribe to our channel. So you don't miss any special episodes when they drop. Like this video if you're watching now when we do watch down. So we watch later on the replay and comment down below.
If you're listening to the other podcast from this story, I'm the week also. Thank you and it was a great interview. And if you're watching live, then that's all your theories, all your pains. Again, therapy time today for one hour, one, 15 minutes.
We'll try to help each other out as we power through this. All day, who's out doing the chat? I think comment's already going on. Powerful shot going on.
Alan is here as always. Hi, Ellen. Brennan. Hello there.
Brennan. He's saying what an episode and what an episode is. Indeed. We have Mo in the shot.
Olapriimos. Olapriimah. Jen Urso, pro pick. Love it.
She's very excited about the Brad's Rogue One shirts. Oh, yeah. Awesome. Friends of the Force is also in the shot.
Well, also being that. Oh, you're crazy. Wait, have we ever seen the Friends of the Force and us in the same room at the same time? What?
Who's behind the desk? Sarah. Who's behind? So and lastly, we have a little bit less than a force.
Hello there. They're saying great to see Brad and Sarah and directly did my entire High Republic reading journey. Well, listen to the episodes. Yeah.
Thanks for joining us on all of our silly high-fived conversations. Also, sorry. Talking about silly high-fived conversations. Everyone here, of course, big high-fived family.
You can see all these high republics here right there. You guys, they're on holiday force going that turn us kind of taken a little bit of this egg talk. Can you talk a little bit about what is where it came from? Where is the stories going right now?
Because it seems to be going to the name list. And why were they taken from the plant? The name list who have never done anything wrong in their entire life. Brad, you give us egg talk since he's he's typing.
Well, egg talk is a phrase that we coined because in 2019's Master in Apprentice by Claudia Gray, there's a prophecy in there talking about eggs. Specifically, the name list are also mentioned. This was a time before the High Republic. So as we got farther in and were able to put a name to these name lists, creatures, we were like, wait a minute.
It's all connected. We see what you're doing, Claudia. We see what you're doing, Kevin. We know we see.
And then like, I think last year, middle of the year, it was like confirmed on Star Wars.com that the name list refers to these in Master in Apprentice. And so we were like, wow, we're not delusional. We're on something here. So we're just going to keep continuing with it.
So it's been a good time. Very, very beautiful. And like that's okay, too. We have to be a little bit to enjoy the High Republic full on.
I'm pretty sure the High Republic authors, I can't kind of the solution. They came up with a rock. Yeah. The best, the best co-pilot and navigator out there.
Actually, yeah. All right. So we are not going to agree. No eggs in the in the acolyte yet that we know.
Yes. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see.
We'll see. We'll see. All right. Well, there's a lot to talk about today.
So if you guys already, I'm not ready. Let's start with and start with some TV. All right. So episode five of the I collide night, I just said, oh my God, what have we just witnessed because given the previous episode, I'm sort of setting up.
Well, yeah, it's going to be an action package. So we'll see. Smile, oh, ran out there fighting. What's going to happen?
But this, at least for me, kind of took it whole new level. All day, we haven't spoken in a while, but just real quick, your thoughts on everything we just saw. Before I do it, I just want to say hello to Norahou. Who's in the chat?
Oh, we're all. She got a birthday. Yeah. I had a birthday birthday birthday.
And also, they'll finally came. We just leave that alone. They'll get here. He used to be the first one in the chat.
I know. He's basically it's a lot of time. He's always doing stuff. Yeah.
So, man, I was really enjoying the acolyte. But they ruined the acolyte on these birthday. So, what's the point anymore? No, in a serious version of this conversation, I'm really enjoying the acolyte.
It's the episode, maybe a bit too short for my liking, but I think that's fine. Having a lot of fun meeting this character and watching them go apparently. And this episode specifically took my absolute ass because. Yeah, I understand.
Even if it was a shorter episode, I've watched it three times. I don't feel that. Oh, I needed another 10 or 15 minutes. I still like, no, I did everything.
Didn't feel short. Everything worked. Still going? Okay, more than that.
Yeah. Oh, so again, we won't go scene by scene. We're going to go start off different things and just go with the episode. Anyways, well, Brad and Sarah, that you all hold on the Jackie Jam.
What happened already? Dead. And I can't believe it. We kind of have, who's gonna survive?
Who's gonna die? I'm always the optimist. I'm obviously gonna be okay. At least this episode also by first Jackie goes extremely.
Sadistic way. And then if I'm in a slator, you'll die. So I don't know what to believe. And yes, I worry about.
I guess Brad I'll start with you. You just general thought seeing this happen for both of two characters that just came out of nowhere, took everyone's attention and love and started with community. And now everyone ever knows or we have reported friends doing every book. Oh, totally.
I think they did a really clever job misdirecting us because of how many red shirts that they brought with them on this mission. So we're like, of course, the red shirts are going to be a lightsaber fodder. We're good. Plot armor on.
And the moment, yeah, Jackie died, I was like, Oh, wait, never mind. Plot armor out the window this episode. You know, knowing that the Jedi think the Sith have been extinct for millennia in the Phantom Menace, I don't think anybody's making it back to Coruscant. I don't know how or when or how even for Nestor plays into all this, eventually, too, although who knows when Nestor, you know, maybe we see the end of her life on the show, who knows, I don't want to say it.
I don't want to say it. Like, I think this episode showed us anything is on the table because we are in a dark, dark time in the galaxy. I'll be honest, that had never crossed my mind that the Nestor might end at the end of the acrylite. And then someone else posted me was Alan, you can tell me someone else can oppose.
Oh, maybe this is the end of an answer. And I'm like, Oh, no, that's right. We don't know what we're surprised that she's even here. Now I'm scared for one more of my favorite characters.
Sarah, you kind of maybe teasing the same thing. And again, seeing the old and Jackie, you can't believe they're nice already. I live in fear. I don't know what's going on anymore.
I have, I, you know, I'm, I'm on this wave and I will ride it into the shore, you know, and whatever happens between the wave and the shore. Who knows? Will I fall off the surfboard? You know, like, um, I, yeah, I don't know.
Uh, seeing Jackie and your, uh, go in this episode was genuinely devastating. Um, like genuinely like feelings were terrible. Um, I was really good. And I agree with you.
Oh, this is the first one where I was like, Oh, there's not more. Like when this episode ended, although the ending was still a little abrupt, I was like, okay, I feel like we've done a lot here. I can wait a week. I mean, like I need to know what happens right now or else.
However, um, give me a little bit of time to work through what just happened to me. Uh, and then I'll get back to it. I'll tell you when you saw this two, I'd like night that I've been a staple of this. So one of the main faces so far with your, uh, Charlie Barnet taking away social media, Star Wars, that's common everything.
And Jackie, of course, all the lot that she was getting. And maybe, uh, maybe one of them dies when both of them again, when Elder Serals went back to me, the dark side kicking ass, but unfortunately make it. The minute they killed Jackie, I was like, okay, everyone's for a game. Um, I don't know.
I hate it to see them die. Sure. But on the same page, I was excited because I don't think Star Wars has ever surprised me like this, like ever. Um, so I was excited that my favorite franchise that I've been following for 30 years gave me something that I hadn't seen.
Um, so, and the episode was just so cool for me to be upset about anything. Um, regarding her nest. I'll just say she's lived over 200 years, you know, vice a bitch, but when she turns your turn. Oh, that's a great point.
Um, just in terms of the deaths because there was a quote from that UW article that came out on, uh, Wednesday and, uh, Daphne had said, like, if we're not making the show dangerous, then why are we even here concerned about the stories? So I think that that really added some heavy stakes because I think we've been so used to shows that are like the Mandalorian and like, you know, and we're, we know, and we're, we know where it gets the real ones. So, you know, there's little, there's little wiggle room for who can die and who can. And some of these shows.
Um, and so yeah, I think I get your point about it was exciting, but also like tragic at the same time because the fact that the community is reeling so bad in the wake of this episode shows that that build up and that character development of everybody that once you go far, like really made a difference. And like we actually cared about these characters. Yeah, I know, at least for me, when we're watching the bad batch, a lot of people, so also one is to die is all the bad batch going to, to the winning stage, which outstakes, it doesn't matter. Like it's fine.
There's all these stakes going around. We don't know who's going to survive. So they're already no stick. And I was actually happy when everyone survives again.
Maybe it goes the same way. No, there you go. Half of them are dead. And the person doing the killing was Kaimir, the strangers, Milo Ren, who just, actually, actually, I'm this shot.
So right there, uh, Otty. So I guess no one is surprised. It was him. Are you okay?
Does it matter? They was not telegraphed, but it doesn't, at least it doesn't matter because the reveal worked in the show and the way the character was worked right afterwards. It doesn't matter. It was behind the mask.
Kind of. It was great. Give me Kaimir. It's been setting the things in motion since episode two.
So of course let's see his face now. I like how the show has been so loose with its reveals and so casual with them. There really wasn't much build up to who the master was like, um, again, yes, we were speculating from the beginning of the show really didn't ponder on that until basically the previous episode and this episode, like, yeah, he is. He's the person.
Um, that makes me actually very excited for what's next because I think we've exhausted most of the theories and, you know, piecing together with the trailers, what's going to happen. So I think we're now in fresh territory. Um, so, but I really like the reveal of Kaimir. There's a lot of things to his character that I think are very interesting.
And yeah, like, I guess we'll talk more about it. So Sarah, were you one of the people out there kind of speculating that Kaimir might be the one I know a lot of people were maybe some of the coral or people maybe in that way somewhere kind of manipulating everything were you so impressed with the review? Were you okay with it? And then from there, we're kind of going into, we'll talk about this as we do our gun, but kind of revealing.
I don't have a name. You get my call may sit and what that implication might live, live on in the future. Right. I think that I like had two theories that were ongoing.
One was like, yeah, it's kind of your obvious. Kind of you've never seen them, you know, together, therefore. Um, but the other one was like, maybe it's a secret third option. And it's someone we haven't seen yet at all.
And now I've kind of shifted that that to, I think, I don't think that Kaimir is the actual master. Like, I think that he is the apprentice looking for somebody under him and accolade because if you think about his dialogue when he's like, I'm looking for a pupil and act like he never says apprentice. Um, which makes me think that he's the apprentice and they were trying to use up the master anyway. Um, I was shocked, but not surprised in the sense of like, I think the reveal was super super well done and shocking.
And I was like yelling, pacing, screaming, crying. Like, honestly, there should have been a camera on me watching these past episodes because I would like to watch it back because I think that I would be really funny. Like the range of emotions I was going through was a little bit absurd. I live in all of my family was like, Sarah, be quiet.
I'm like, you don't understand, you're gonna pick my star wars time right now. Yeah. I understand this is a family room, a living room. It's my star wars time.
Right. Yeah, in terms of, in terms of what could be next and where this character goes, I'm really, really excited about it because I, I agree that we're definitely in, uh, an open, an open field. Like there's so many options ahead of us at this point. So this is the obvious answer.
Yeah, it's something I think for, because I heard a lot of people say, I was too obvious. I cannot miss it. There should be something else. Oh, what kind of mystery should everyone knew about it?
But I said we've been speculating since the trailer came out. Who's the guy behind the mask? They're like 30 theories out there. I usually, usually use my family as the barometer for their regular friends out there.
And I've been watching this show with my wife and last week, she's like, oh, who had it be? Maybe it's this guy and she mentioned Sky me, but she wasn't 100% sure. Watching these episodes when Oh, she kind of mentions, Oh, my mother was able to take over July's mine. I saw this once.
This, Oh, maybe it's unspaced. And maybe it's one of the mothers. And then when the reveal came out, Oh, it was really this guy. So for people that do not try to get online, he still serve the purpose of Oh, it's a cool reveal.
Uh, Brad, a lot of people are saying, Oh, he looks like a Knight of Ren. He looks like the original Ren. You think, and he knows he said, I'm a Sith. That's it claim their name.
For his own apprentice over 30 master, which is still where I also kind of fall. But could it be leading to Ren, the Knights of Ren, is that too obscure for their general fandom? Or is this just leading another show leading to the sequel trilogy? Yeah, I'm kind of of of the thought that he is currently a part of the secret Sith structure, but doesn't want to be.
And he wants to get out of it. That's why he wants an acolyte. He wants to he wants to use Sir Pizmaster, Allah rule of two, but to have like a new kind of power power in the galaxy that he can establish. And maybe that is the Knights of Ren, right?
Like maybe he is the original Ren, not the one we see in, you know, train Kylo, but like far, far in the past. And I think his, to Sarah's point, saying some might call me Sith, I think he's poking fun at the Jedi because we know the Jedi think in very binary ways, you know, like, and it's set up in the show. It's not about good or bad, right? It's about power.
So I think that's kind of poking fun at the fact that the Jedi think of things too, black and white and very simplistically. And he is sort of like, I'm living in 2035. I'm above everybody here. Like I'm on a different plane of existence.
And I think that's kind of his driving motivation is he just wants to be outside of the current dichotomy in the galaxy. He's just like, I'm outside the box. You're all in the box, uncreative people, go home. Yeah, you kind of mentioned at one point that he's talking to Sol.
Like, oh, I don't follow the rules. Or you don't have to break the rules if you don't follow them. Even though the Sith have rules made the rule of two of what I was doing. He wants to be outside of that.
You don't want to mention he doesn't follow the rules of combat. I don't know what the hell he's doing. All day, we've talked weeks ago that no, this is obviously the apprentice looking for his apprentice to the network, the Sith Lord. You're still falling into that camp.
Or you kind of at least surprised me also that Sol didn't have a reaction when he kind of mentioned the Sith. So I was like, okay, whatever, get out of here. So you said, we'll see the game. I want to hang on to that for a second.
I actually thought the same thing when I saw it. And I kind of thought like the Jedi even think of the Sith at this point. If they've been gone for almost a thousand years, like really think about this. Who were the dominant group 900 years ago on Earth?
I looked it up. So I know the answer to that. But like the Mongol Empire was like basically the big empire at that point. What if someone randomly said like, yeah, the Mongols are back?
Who are you talking about? So it's super bizarre because it's Star Wars. We read about it. We know everything, how it's connected.
We know the Sith are coming back. The Jedi don't know that. So I think it would be super interesting if he tells Sol, like he said something, if Sol tells her an S or something, like he said something about the Sith, the Sith, and maybe vernessments. And she's like, oh, crap.
So yeah, and something from the shadow I wanted to pull someone, Trevor does that, of course I mentioned they love the similarities in looking for freedom as their life mission between the stranger and Mark and Ro. And I like that. On paper, it's a good pitch. Yeah, I don't want the Jedi intruding in my life.
I don't want the government intruding in my life, but what you're selling is something else, something very sinister because freedom for them is freedom too. Yeah, I'll kill you if I want. Yeah, I'll rate this village just because I want their bread or something like that. So I really like that comparison.
Yeah, I mean, I was a bit surprised because the Sith got in mention the High Republic in Phase 2, was so mentioned, I think Phase 1 and also mentioned in Phase 3 in State from Balo. What I was saying was, it's kind of dressing as a Sith, with a red light, fake red light saver. But again, this is 150 years before, so I mean, I forgot. Anyway, I will go back to that scene and the conversation between Kaimira and Sol later on, we talked a little bit more theory.
It's just like, I want a lot of things for interesting in there. But let's not first, with Kaimira versus Sol, kind of round one, the first time they finally crossed Sol, which sounds kind of weird, but why? I didn't know that Hell-Matsing Star was a no-code tosses, but I mean, I know they're taking my Hell-Mira, so you can read my mind or something like, I didn't know this was a thing. Why is Kaimira doesn't want Sol to be his man?
I think there's something there, but, and of course, a great line, like, what Master Heights is faced from his pupil? Oh, you tell me. I don't know. Odi, watching that scene, we've always said Sol is going to break our hearts when we find out what happens.
What's going on? I have a super weird theory about what Sol did, and let's see. I think there's room for us learning that Sol put nothing, and the show has just been putting us on that set mindset that, yeah, he has to be able, because he has to be hiding something, because he's a Jedi, and they're sketchy. I don't know, I think that would be like very fun, and that would kind of hold the rug from other us, maybe they all did something I never found out, because he was still busy looking for Ausha.
For you guys, Brad and Sara, that first interaction between Sol and Kaimira, we kind of have that, that scene for us later, but show your face. No, not really, why don't you show yours, or you also hiding your face, and also, I'm going to give my helmet off, so you don't read my mind, or my mind. A lot of revelations just in that little bit right there. Yeah, I think that one of the really interesting things, because for me, what kind of Master Heights is faced, you tell me, is alluding to the secrets that Sol is keeping about that night on Brandok, of course.
At least, I don't think it goes far beyond that, but the and let you read my thoughts, no, no, no. First of all, I was like, hello Batman 2022, welcome back, you know. But I was like, who is Kaimira, what has happened to him, what has made him feel like this? And I think we've gotten a taste of that with when the Jedi show up on Brandok, and we hear them say, you know, like, we hear your teaching children, well, the Republic, alluding to like, well, the Republic has some sort of mandate, but the Jedi are the only ones that can teach children the Force, which is like, interesting.
But I wonder if, you know, like, classic is like someone was taken away from him, he feels lost there, which is exactly what May is feeling, or if he's been taken advantage of by the Jedi in a way or a way that he perceives. I'm very curious about what that will reveal about Kaimira in the future, especially because we know that he can put on roles, masks, faces, characters very, very easily. When he goes from Kaimira, the kind of guy in his own world who's just a smuggler, who once worked for the Hudson, he's just gonna give May this, you know, poison to the very sinister vocal inflection and then switch immediately back into, oh hello, it's, he's like a master manipulator in that and I want to know where, what made him choose that path? I don't know if that answers your question, these are my thoughts.
That was one of my favorite moments, oh hello, only two seconds ago. I mean, big drops of money, I think, because yeah, you can act one way behind him as another way when he just being kind about that switch right there in two seconds to go back and forth. It was great. Do I say Manny is one of the best casting decisions the Star Wars franchise has ever made?
Yeah. Especially for a villain, like, incredible. And I love that one clip from the celebration circulating where he's on stage being like, what's up Star Wars? And like, he's even putting on that goofy persona, or in like very early press.
So he was like, trying to really smooth this over and say, oh, I'm not the bad guy, just a silly little guy in the show, you know? We see now, we know what you did. Even watching the trailers, I was thinking, not that they're wasting, we're just like, you see, just going to be this guy is there for two episodes and not really doing anything, you know, hiding. Now he's a big bad and we just all fell for it.
Brad, did you not feel for it, but watching that first interaction with Soul, and throw that back and forth. And I want to jump into this later on. Do you think there's more maybe between the two of them, some history there? Yeah, we were trying to figure that out because when Soul says, oh, I thought I sent something familiar, Sarah and I were wondering, is that like two-day or old familiar, or is that much, much longer day familiar?
And I get the sense of the silly thing to be like, oh, I remember you from Tuesday. You know, like that's kind of the anti-climatic to say that even. So I feel like somehow, kind of, which looking at the age of Amanda and Manny, Manny's in his late 30s, Amanda in their mid 20s. So like, theoretically, if it's been 10 years since Rundock or 10 or 16 years, that would put him like his early 20s.
I checked because I have the, when we get to our theory time, I have one, and I checked the age the same thing. I think it will have been 22, 16 years ago. So we got to take that face value, because we know the Star Wars characters ages are actors ages, you know, so there's that, but, maybe that was the point you're going to make, Odie, but. He could be 22 or he could be 5,000 years old.
Right, exactly. And maybe you decide, right, we decide to change his age at some point in the future. But they've been reset the cannon. Right.
That break the lower heart. Right. It's breaking so many, so many cannons right now. So kind of Jackie was kind of near fighting at one point, Soul and Jackie at the same time, which was bad as he's even trying to catch May, but before that, it's, and we'll get a little bit later to, oh, May and Jackie's fight, but Jackie goes full on, again, this part of one.
Now just two, two lightsabers. It was a great fight. And we haven't talked about the courtossies, helmet, and foreign brace and just headbought in lightsabers, which just visually kicks ass, but that fight between those two. And then when you bring Soul into it, and it's like they're really trying to kill each other.
It's like, it's not just, ah, we're firing your shot and lights over to the side, and now you jump. It's not trying to hurt each other. I think you've seen a part of one with two green lightsabers going total with a, let's say see it at the moment in 2024. So we are great feeling, right?
Jackie, you absolute little monster. She did her best. She handed his ass to him. She, like, I got pumped up watching Jackie even from her fight with May.
She was trying to arrest her, and it was kind of funny, like her citing everything, everything over there she was arresting her. That fight was pretty cool, but when she gets to Kaimi, like, oh, this episode had so many fist-pumping moments. Like, we had like two of those last minute blocks, like, you're saving the day, I think Soul blocks Kaimi from killing Jackie. There were like a lot of so many cool moments in Jackie.
For me, she was my MVP. Like, even though she bites it, she's the one who breaks the mask. She's the one who got closest, I think, to doing, well, Soul, but she, at that point, she was the closest to getting to beating him. The Soul pushes Kaimi back with the force, and Jackie goes straight to the head, trying to decapitate him.
Brad, did it leave up to the expectation of X23 with a lightsaber, which would have been here for a while. Totally, totally. Jackie kicked Sirius ass. She would have survived Order 66.
I don't know how long the dealings ages are, but she would have kicked clone ass, eventually. Yeah, I think that's the most tragic part about it, just seeing how versus how she was, it felt like she was almost dance, it was like a dance more so than a fight with her, because she just was so smooth and fluid in the way that she fought. So I feel like she had such a bright future ahead for her, and that's the worst part about it is just like, the Jedi Knight she would have become out of the situation had she lives, just like rips my heart out. Yeah, I wish we could kind of possibly give her a Jedi Knight ranking, because she deserves it.
Oh, totally. I think that points also very interesting because how do you kill the Jedi without a weapon you take away the youth? Like yes, I know he used a weapon, but like the youth are what make the Jedi what they are, they are what we grow beyond. And you know, I think that that symbolized like so much more than just the Padawan dying, like it's like the set slowly killing off the future of the Jedi.
And I also think it's interesting that she dies the minute she goes for the head. Like the second she stopped defending and went for the attack, that's when she was the defenseless and died. So yeah, that's the deep we're not going there. So as this fight goes on again, Jackie and Soul both fighting just visually is a great fight.
At the same time, Kaimera Strang is chasing down May because oh, you were trying to be training all this later on, first choking her or actually choking her and just firing block shots. But unfortunately that all leads to our first big death, which everyone gets in my house, including sorry, putting this on your first. And you mentioned how you scream at your house watching this episode. But I know I know it's heartbreaking for everyone and we say how surprised we were.
But ever cross your mind watching this episode at the beginning that she was going to die and then die the way she did with three lightsaber steps. Hold on basically. Not at all, not at all. Again, like Brad mentioned up top, like too much plot armor for any of our named characters to die.
And my thought was like, okay, thinking about a higher public, like you're really going to kill a Wookiee Padawan, you're going to kill Briaga or not. Or would you do that? Like why would you do that? The Wookiees are precious.
It's like flip, here's my Wookiee shrine. But like you wouldn't do that and then I saw Kellnaka's death in the last episode. I'm like, oh they're killing the Wookiees, it's going great. But it's like why would you kill, you're not going to kill your Padawan, you're not going to kill a kid.
But I should have known one because it's the higher public. Two just because every red shirt had died so far and pretty impressively too. Like in terms of how the fights were choreographed, so no, I didn't expect this at all. But I have to say that it was really well executed and just a really exciting fight.
And I thought that like I was like, oh, Jackie, she's getting somewhere, she's going somewhere. But the way that it shot hiding his face to get that dual saber reveal into that moment and then just seeing her reaction to what just happened to her and to his face, it was like it was a really good piece of storytelling. But man, was it devastating? That's getting awful, yelling, me going, me walking around me like, oh my god, oh my god, okay.
And he's not the master, he's definitely the master. Yeah, yeah. Maybe it all. And even a couple of weeks ago, I interviewed that let's see headline that interview she had with the Filoni, we cannot sit down talking to, she's talking about how Jackie kind of measures a little bit with Ahsoka and having some trouble saying, oh, this is going to be her first mission of Filoni saying, oh, that's what the Jedi, kind of, all the Jedi council is for to get you ready for the world.
So yeah, of course she's going to be the sound like same thing. Oh, no, she's going to make it. She's, I mean, she dies. But again, being about us breaking the helmet off, at least making doing the reveal.
Now the other side of Brando, or Kofar, I should say, your took Ohshak, or so said, take us a billion out of here. They get lost in the forest because Basil is out doing Basil things. Every time Basil can into the screen, I'll just whistle, don't die Basil. I love you.
It'll be the key to all of this later on, but that was a serious plot, all right. You can't go a cute little thing like that. You can't do it. No, they killed enough.
He walks back in 83, that's enough killing of two creatures. But they decide to go back. And Ohshah listening again to little May's voice, which again, once that connection, when August was here, we talked about Force Nia between those two. She's still hearing baby or young May Yawder.
They decide to go back. What do you want to start? I just want to say like, and reading the Five of Storm is the book. Same.
Yeah. Okay. There's a moment where Verna is talking to Barry Tanteca, and she talks about what's weird that the force is using that face to manifest to her. I think it's basically the same thing.
I think the force just manifests to Ohshah as young May. Oh, the force. I don't think they're talking through space time. I have done it in different ways.
I also wonder about, because we see it's like 13 minutes in, if anybody's looking for the time. We see Kaimir with a mask right up in front of the camera in, I think May's head. So I was also wondering, is it not, you know, May talking to Ohshah, or the force talking to Ohshah, but Kaimir talking to Ohshah. And similar, I mean, when Snoke, we think about Snoke, right, we think about Kylo Ren, we think about the force and how it manipulated him from before his Earth, like canonically.
It makes me wonder, is this a Palpatine Snoke force, like evil manipulation, rather just a neutral force manipulation, if that makes sense. Yeah, I make good big around that same time is when Yawder said, Oh, he went going to my mind, you feel like he's on your mind. Ohshah goes on, so my mother could do that, I saw her again to just mine, and then she hears May in her mind. So so connected, like they say out there.
But then he decided to go back, unfortunately, and with what happens, Brad, I kind of made a joke before they've come out. Maybe Yawder is a kick ass lightsaber duelist, he goes in, likes over in hand, helmet in hand to just bash a crab out of that red lightsaber, watch that kick ass move, and he's neck snapped off, basically. Second death, I'm not going to ask if you're surprised, but I love that Yawder went back, just kind of full on, let's go and try to save everyone out there after May said, Oh, he's going to kill a lot of them, we got to go do something. We didn't work out for him.
Yeah, the the brutality of yours death was unexpected. Yeah, just the kicking neck snap. Yeah, it's the first time I've ever seen somebody snap a neck and star wars, you're just getting shot by a blaster or getting your arm chopped off and it's lightsaber sad. This is like, it wasn't even serious John Wick stuff.
It wasn't even a force now, it was just like bare hands, just a total bicep, which like respects I'm going to go to the gym and try to get by such a big as those, but like, my God, I would love that to happen. I mean, I don't want that to ever happen to me. Obviously, because I mean, I would die peacefully. I mean, tragically.
But yeah, I think I think as a fellow yaward hoarder from like, even before the series started, like, it was it was a moment for me. I understand how Sarah felt when Kellnach had died the week before, and then like, I lost my May in the following week. And now we're just sitting here like a bunch of clowns and you know, we'll just clown our way to the series or season finale. That's what high republic life is all about.
Clonery. Yeah, total clownery never ever dull moment. Man, yours was one of my favorite things that trailers came out since the character descriptions came out. I'm a sucker for Jedi that want to follow the rules.
I appreciate them. And I was I thought all the other people I think when he finds out what happened on Brando, just the ceiling is going to break on his beyond the Jedi. All this is gonna happen to him. We didn't get there, but again, I can't give you a breath, just the brutality of it.
And he just shocks him to this side, like, his episode trash. Like, yeah, oops, there you go. And then I didn't even mention when he kills Jackie and so it's like, oh, she was only a child. Oh, you brought her here.
I was that her name or was that his name. Like, doesn't care about anything right now. Just destroying them, throwing every word back at them. But also that little word, you know, you brought her here.
Yes, she's a child, but it's the Jedi's fault for bringing child into battlegrounds, basically. Sarah, that little conversation between the two of them, did you pick up anything else or and also I can see that your door is over. A big loss. Everyone's being steamed.
They're close now. And then we got to say buy to our yard. It's so real, you know, like, I was really I had steamed on my clothes for the episode to look so nice and great. And then here we are.
And by the end of the episode, there was a wrinkle and I was like, what is that? Oh, it's the wrinkle in my heart. But no, it was yeah. That was so tragic.
But that conversation was so interesting to me because I remember Brad and I had a conversation on episode four when Jackie said, what is it? You know, it really goes to what you were saying earlier, O.T. with like the Sith are such ancient history, even if we do know about them as being a Jedi in the scenario, if we do know about them, we don't have any first-hand accounts of them. We don't have anybody coming into the classroom and being like, here's my experience of a Sith.
It's all writings. History is a narrative, right? So who is crafting the story about the Sith? What do the Jedi know about the Sith?
Are they something that is even remotely tangible in our present space? And so in doing that, I mean, I think that Jackie really revealed a lack of understanding of what an enemy could be within the context of the world that they were living in, in this high Republic, late High Republic era. I also think that Kamiara clearly sees the Inhumanity in that statement. It is not a pronoun that you use to refer to people.
And so he's going to throw that right back at soul, you know, after the whole after her death, because she denied my humanity or my existence, why would I give her any space? You know, so I thought that was really, like, it felt very heavy. It felt like a lot. And yeah, you brought her here line was devastating and revealing because, you know, like, we know throughout Star Wars history, children in the war causes some problems, whether it be the death of all the younglings, whether it be the guardian protocols in the High Republic where we're advancing them to active status or, you know, all over.
Whether it be the burning of the temple in the sequel or before the sequel trilogy, right? Like, I find it very interesting because it puts together the force with conflict and puts together the force with war rather than the force as an entity as an idea being something neutral. Yeah, and he also goes through the jail and not really learning. But then when you read like Brotherhood at the end when poverty starts again, manipulating, oh, we gotta get more Jedi nice remaster, more power ones to be like, because we need to build our own army.
It just happened to send kids down, because we're not ready to be out there. Yeah, you didn't learn anything. But also, and also an ex-tude like Kaimir, the stranger's comment of like, kill the dream. That's how you kill the Jedi.
I mean, you kill the dream by enlisting Padwans into like a soldier position. And then you're no longer protectors of peace and justice, your soldiers. And that's that's how the dream is killed in the prequel trilogy. They don't they're no longer, they're no longer peaceful.
They're in a war. So that dream is killed. Like, that's how Palpatine rises to power is killing the dream, you know, so you know, I don't know. Yeah, people out there saying that the right of the show is bad or that the story doesn't make sense.
It's like, no, everything. Look at all the pieces out there, falling in the way, I have to think that hard. And when you start thinking like, everything connects so much easier, it's like, it's like, they're, Sarah's gonna say something. I've been saying this, but literally nothing in this series is novel.
It is all Star Wars, like, it is so Star Wars, whether it be the May and OSHA, they've turned you against me, like, whether it be the twins separated, whether it be this masked stranger with like this, this probably complicated past, like the Sith, the Jedi, none of this is new for Star Wars. And, and that's what I've been finding so fun about the show is that every plot moment that happens feels so quintessentially Star Wars. And yet I am still surprised, I'm still so engaged. And I'm right, like, I feel, I feel the essence of what I know the franchise to be, at least in my experience, throughout the show, everywhere.
I 100% agree with that. For me, this is capturing the lining in a bottle that was the prequel trilogy, even the wooden acting is there. And it's very funny to see people defending George and his choices as a director with his actors and being like, the acting here is terrible. It's like, it's clearly riffing on what came before.
If you don't like the, if you don't like it in the prequels, I totally get you not liking it here, but if you praise it in the prequels, come on. They got one tweet going around, they're like, they couldn't even sense the Sith. I'm like, oh, they're sitting in a room with Palpatine for like 10 years. It wasn't an issue that.
Why is it an issue now? It's like when you have a pet that you're allergic to and you're sniffly all the time, and you're sniffly being sniffly is part of my life. And then, you know, you move away, maybe, you know, that was away, living at home and now you've moved away. And you're like, wait a second, everybody can breathe this clear?
The Jedi are in that, I'm just sniffly all the time throughout all of history, because they're villains have always been there. Every time I clean my guinea pigs cage, I start sneezing and my wife is, you might be allergic. No, no, no, it's fine. It's usually the last 20 minutes that happens that I'm fine at the beginning.
It's there. I got an allergy. I mean, we always talk about Qui-Gon James told the council, I just want to say it two minutes ago. Okay.
I saw it with my own two eyes. No, you didn't. It's all my words. I was just reaping on sweat.
I was like, even when they're... Yo, when death kills Qui-Gon, they're kind of like, oh, whatever he died. I just remembered one thing. Anakin goes to Mace Windu and tells him, probably think, just told me he is a Sith Lord and Mace is like, I told him he's true.
I have to go check. You were the first one. Pix were, didn't have a young siren. I'm like, oh my, you know who didn't hit Pix to get angry?
It was so naughty when he went full on dark with his anger. I thought for a second that he was actually going to kill Kaimir. We surprised how brutal he got. And that freestyle fist fight that those two had, no like sabers inside just punching his other head on.
That was great. Like, Brandon should be for something really, having seen Star Wars that brutality didn't fight, especially for the Jedi, the cool compose. Were you waiting for someone to stop him? Were you think that, oh, he's going to take his head off at that point?
Man. Yeah. Oh, sorry. Go ahead, Ori.
You go first. I go first. I was with two minds. I thought like he's going to kill him and that's going to plant the dark seed and that's going to grow and he's going to turn into a Sith.
But I really like that he didn't kill. I mean, I know a lot of people say, oh, he could have entered it right there. And yeah, he would have probably ended the Zitline or stopped it for a while. But being a Jedi is being better and his choices are his own.
And I don't know. I was surprised that he could compose himself because Kaimir really pushed him. Like he killed this final one. He was trying to kill May constantly.
He taunted him. He teased them. So good on you, soul. It got me wondering if Kaimir is looking for an acolyte.
Does he see something within soul in that fight? That he's like, what have you done with your dark? He's like, what have you done with your darkness? I've embraced it.
Why don't you embrace it? And so I think there's maybe a realm in which neither May or OSHA become the acolyte, but actually soul becomes the acolyte because he has predisposed to dark his own darkness based on whatever happened on Brundock potentially. Maybe the series becomes about the twins saving soul. And I know there's things between soul is the sun and Kaimir's name and Arabic means moon.
I believe in others like that kind of thing. It's like the sun and the moon and the umberamats in this episode. The creatures, the horde of them is called an eclipse. So you're like, oh god, the sun and the moon and the eclipse.
And they're going to they're going to align in the oh, and the acolyte is the eclipse too. It's all connected. That sounds like in a clinically insane person right now. But like that's there's a Roman which soul could be that.
They're going to be crazy for saying like actually though, like am I connecting the dots? You didn't connect shit. Like you did not. You're no, I'm okay.
No to that. Thank you. My biggest acolyte of mythology book that I have out there before we start was serious. I gotta find out what every name means.
Make all these connections out there. Like they feel honest right in everything. But sir, where do you fall again with sort of showing that darkness and that anger being stopped by OSHA last minute and then the umberamats, the cicadas, whatever kind of taking them out with Pip coming in as a like. So I love you, Pip.
Thank you for your service. Kind of just I'll get another one. But that was brutal. I was like, no, not that dry too.
Like everybody's going. But that moment is so interesting because I think the line is his mind is twisted by darkness. And then he says, I've accepted my darkness. What have you done with yours?
And my thought was, I go back to one of my favorite quotes from the Republic, which is comepitis into the dark. I have pulled up my document for you. How can we split the force into how can we justify such an act of violence and it is violence, such a dividing even the darkness divided from the light page 128 for anybody following along. And my thought is, well, that to me implies that soul has buried his darkness.
He has hidden it away. He has compartmentalized it and put it in a vault. He clearly knows what's happened. He's clearly experienced the darkness before.
But instead of embracing it or working with it or acknowledging it, it seems like he has pushed it away. And to me, that feels like a splitting up force, which leaves him in this moment, vulnerable to be taken by that influence of the darkness when his anger bubbles up, that the vault is turning and it's opening. And he could have killed Kynia in this moment. And honestly, maybe that would have been the right choice.
Oh, Brad, I see your comment go away. Maybe that would have been the right choice in terms of the galaxy at large. You know, like, you know, if you could go back in your time machine and kill this terrible historical figure, would you do it to save all the other people's lives? Like, that's kind of the question that I think could be asked here.
But yeah, there's maybe something that Sol sees in Kynia that he fails to acknowledge in himself. But I don't think that it is a temptation to the darkness. I don't think that he has any fear of going dark. I think he just has a fear of being a failure because he has engaged with the dark in the past.
I want to add to that point, not to bring up Egg Talk here. Like the thought behind Egg Talk is like, you know, how do you face, you know, what do the Jedi fear and how do you face fear? I think often in the pre-gold here fear is a path to the dark side. So the Jedi create avoidant behavior.
They separate light from dark and they only embrace the light and they never acknowledge the dark. And so I think back to the first episode of this series where Jackie and Sol are saying, hey, you know, if you don't look at the past, you're doomed to repeat it. And I think, you know, these conversations that this conversation that Sol and Kynia are having, I think, I think it's kind of pointing out the fact that the Jedi as an order have not are no longer acknowledging the past or they're no longer acknowledging that the Sith once existed. They don't know what the Sith are.
It's an it, you know, as Jackie says, and they don't know like what that darkness, what to do with it or how to handle that emotion because nobody talks to each other and nobody helps each other. And they're all just like, hey, you feel fear? Just, I don't know, like, you know, she's sick or something. I don't know.
You know, feel better, bro. It's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, yeah, go have some spice cream. You'll feel better. See, I feel like the order is in a bad place.
