S8 Ep72: When Will a Judge Order Supervised Parenting Time?

#ChooseGoldman Supervised parenting time is not the standard in Michigan courts. A judge will only order this arrangement when there is clear and convincing proof that a child could be at risk if left alone with a parent. Supervised parenting is the exception, not the rule; the court's default position is regular, unsupervised parenting time: To get a supervised order, you must prove to the court that there is a significant and compelling risk to the child's safety. Valid reasons for supervision include a history of untreated drug or alcohol abuse, domestic violence, or a credible risk of abduction. A judge will likely deny requests based on simple post-divorce distrust or attempts to manipulate the situation.
