from Forward Radio podcasts · host Forward Radio
Today’s show is the first in a series of follow-up programming that Sacrifice Zones will be teaming up with VOCAL Kentucky for. VOCAL stands for Voices of Community Activists and Leaders and is a program brought to our great city by Shameka Parrish-Wright and Jeremy Saunders. VOCAL-KY is building a movement of low-income people dedicated to ending the AIDS epidemic, the war on drugs, mass incarceration, and homelessness across the country. They fight for systemic change rooted in justice, compassion, and love. They approach this work with a firm belief in reducing harm and ending stigma, and the knowledge that the issues impacting our communities are driven by institutional oppression, not personal failings. Pony Morris is a community activist and leader representing VOCAL Kentucky and Pony came to the studio to introduce the concept of harm reduction for my audience. This show will feature some sound from that show. Harm reduction works by addressing broader health and social issues through improved policies, programs, and practices.
