The SADC region has confirmed its support for the decolonisation of the occupied territory of the Western Sahara and for the holding of a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people. The regional block hosted a Solidarity Conference with the people of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic in Pretoria over the past two days. The meeting was opened by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Namibian counterpart and SADC Chairperson Hage Geingob. It was attended by representatives from the over 40 countries including Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, Zimbabwe's Emerson Mnangagwa and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo as well as the President of the Western Sahara Ibrahim Ghali.
