Sailing out into the depths of prayer

The best relationships that we have in our lives are the ones where we are not afraid to go deep. Likewise in our relationship with Christ, the more we can deepen our relationship the stronger our relationship will be. The million dollar question then is: how do we deepen our relationship? The Church answers with a clear pathway: praise, verbal prayer, meditative prayer, and contemplative prayer. Today we explore verbal, meditative, and contemplative prayer. Praise "Praise embraces the other forms of prayer and carries them toward him" CCC 2639 Verbal prayer "We are body and spirit, and we experience the need to translate our feelings externally." CCC 2702 Meditative prayer "Meditation engages thought, imagination, emotion, and desire. This mobilization of faculties is necessary in order to deepen our convictions of faith, prompt the conversion of our heart, and strengthen our will to follow Christ." CCC 2708 Contemplative prayer "Contemplative prayer is silence, the "symbol of the world to come" or "silent love." Words in this kind of prayer are not speeches; they are like kindling that feeds the fire of love."
