The more formal the situation, the more likely it is that the sake etiquette will be more strictly adhered to.  Beyond just being polite, sake etiquette also helps us dive deeper into understanding Japanese culture as a whole. For example, the idea of "wa" or group harmony is at the root of some ideas that drive sake manners.
