Saladin's Generosity: Ransom, Mercy, and Chivalry

In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore Saladin's legendary generosity and mercy, focusing on his treatment of captives after the Battle of Hattin in 1187 and the surrender of Jerusalem. They discuss the ransom of Guy de Lusignan, his kindness to Balian of Ibelin, the story of the old woman who received a gift, and how his chivalry was recorded by Muslim chroniclers like Baha ad-Din and Imad ad-Din, as well as by Western sources. They also touch on his diplomatic gifts to Richard the Lionheart and the lasting impact of his reputation as a noble adversary. This episode looks beyond the battlefield to understand how Saladin's character shaped his legacy and influenced both Muslim and Christian perceptions of the Crusades. #Saladin #Crusades #Chivalry #Hattin #Jerusalem #BalianOfIbelin #RichardTheLionheart #Ayyubid #MedievalIslam #Knights #Ransom #Generosity #History #FexingoHistory #PodcastHistory #MiddleEastHistory #ThirdCrusade #KurdishLeader Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
