Saladin's Iron Wall: The Siege of Kerak

In 1183, Saladin laid siege to the fortress of Kerak, a strategic stronghold held by the Crusaders. This episode explores the dramatic events surrounding this campaign, focusing on the unlikely alliance that formed within the walls between the ruling lord, Raymond of Tripoli, and the exiled princess, Isabella of Jerusalem. While Saladin’s armies surrounded the castle, a political earthquake was happening in Damascus as his nephew, Talal, attempted to seize power during the Sultan’s absence. We examine how the defense of Kerak became a microcosm of the broader tensions within the Ayyubid court and the fragile unity of the Crusader states. Through the accounts of chroniclers like Baha ad-Din ibn Shaddad, we uncover the tactical decisions, the personal rivalries, and the sheer endurance required to hold the line against one of history’s most formidable military leaders. #Kerak #SiegeOfKerak #Saladin #IsabellaOfJerusalem #RaymondOfTripoli #TalalBinAyyub #AyyubidDynasty #Crusades #MiddleEastHistory #MedievalFortress #IslamicEmpire #KingdomOfJerusalem #MilitaryStrategy #12thCentury #ArabianDesert #CrossroadsOfEmpires #FexingoHistory #History Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
