In the dead of night, as people sleep, that's when the spirits creep. As the bell tolls three, dark things take power. We like to call it the supernatural hour. Hey, this is just in.

You're a Halloween episode of Supernatural Hour. How are you brothers? I am your host, Castle. With me tonight, we actually have kind of smaller groups than we anticipated.

We actually thought everybody's going to be here tonight. You wanted three hosts, so we fired everybody else and you got three hosts. So we have beaker. What's happening?

And we have got peaches. Hello, hello. AKA other names that we won't go into on this particular episode. Yeah.

So where do we start tonight? There's so much to talk about. I wonder if we have a set list we should follow. I wonder if.

So let's get started with what we did in our introductions. We're moving right along. Moving right along. 45 seconds in and here we are.

Introduction check. Alright, so last night we had our four Douglas investigation which we'll talk about in a minute. And we have an investigation set up in January for a premature restaurant. But unfortunately probably none of you are going.

And it's not that we don't love you. We actually really love 16 of you guys quite a bit. Yeah, so we posted that. We're recording here on Sunday.

We posted that investigation. We brought it live online for you to buy tickets on Thursday. And it was sold out by Sunday morning. Actually we brought it up a little earlier than that.

Just go with it. Yes, we brought up Thursday. It's all that pretty quick. I don't even think it was up for even a week before it's all that.

It literally sold out in two days. It was pretty much just being bang. Boom. Boom.

And boom. And boom. And boom. And boom.

And boom. And boom. And boom. And boom.

And boom. And boom. And boom. They might try to throw it in December or we might wait until February, but we will do another one.

Yeah, so there will be another familyrete investigation by active on- called. If you will. And we'll probably take a little bit of a hiatus. Around the holidays for events but come January we'll be going for again with, investigations, we've got some presentations some lectures on the agenda.

We'll get into that. But Deanna cheese, which we thought should be here to talk about switches. Not somepbadan jokes. We'll get to that down and that I don't get to use them.

I'm sure of the more funny so with that. Let's get right into stone of the week, Tim. Okay, so the stone of the week is Obsidian I chose this stone because I'm kind of going down the list of my top five stones last week I started with amethyst this week as obsidian Obsidian is a powerful cleanser of psychic smog within your aura. It can also be used as a strong psychic protective stone So basically like it will help shield you against any type of negativity It's great for when you're using doing like investigations or when you're doing meditation It's also said to stimulate the gift of prophecy That I'm not 100% sure on I haven't looked too much into that But that's just one of the things that it's said to be able to do It's also an excellent crystal to use when you have been doing any type of spiritual or healing work because it is a strong Grounding stone helps kind of ground you to the earth and While being grounded to the earth you're able to kind of push that negative energy if you're pulling the energy out of the stone You're able to kind of push that negative energy back into the earth and the earth will kind of recycle the energy and The earth has a way of taking energy and bringing it back to you in a positive way Down with that by the way It's also great at assisting you to release any disharmony that's built up in your daily life such as resentment of others fear and anger So it's kind of like metaphysical charcoal pretty much like activate a charcoal like the kind where you filter out stuff Well, it's funny to say that because obsidian is actually a naturally forming crystal that forms from lava What's interesting to is obsidian is one of my personal favorites don't actually collect obsidian.

I've got gold sheen obsidian I've got silver sheen obsidian. I've always enjoyed obsidian and pick with me on all my investigations Thank you Tim for stone of the week. So normally this one we talk about recent investigations with the end But she is not here. So let's talk about for Douglas a little bit last night Tim do you want to start with that?

Sure. So for me, I didn't really do a lot of investigating Normally what ends up happening when I go these investigations and I don't have to lead a group I just kind of hang around and if someone kind of gets like a psychic attack or they're not feeling well They're usually brought to you their peaches or myself But to start the night off we learn tonight we're actually kind of playing around with some new equipment It's called the Paris scope and we're trying to figure out how it works And then all of a sudden both of us kind of like I felt this real strong draw to the basement and he He was kind of feeling like he needed to go down there as well and right about this time. Peach has actually showed up And so we brought her yeah, thanks for that by the way. You're welcome Yeah, so pizza showed up and she's on her Halloween costume Which by the way is a skull and kind of a her face was painted in this really intricate skull And she's wearing a black dress and like when I was the different color than the other and I had no idea She was there and so she told me she wanted a scare castle So I am like here It's sitting this room and wait let me go get him and I go outside and I call my phone I'm like do where you at and he's like I'm in the other building wine.

I'm like I'm like something's going on I really need your help in the main building. I need you to come over here right now I believe the words were something bad about to go down. I don't know what it is But something bad's going on and I need you here now. So he's like okay And he's like I'm on my way and he hangs up and I see him just come booking it And I'm like I'm like I told her just waiting here I'm like I feel like something bad's gonna happen We just need to take care of it right now and we walk in the building and I had her sit in the little theater room And I go she should be in here I told her to wait right here and castle walks in and I'm like shining my flashlight around and I'm like well She should be here because we didn't see her right off the bat and castle turns to start walking towards the bathroom And she comes up behind him and just runs her fingers along the spine of his back And having been to family tree and dealing with some of the fun antics of Lucy the demon princess I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm thinking that somebody one of our guests has kind of been jumped into and is doing kind of a weird Hello from behind some like odd damn and I turned around and there's grandi and it gave me a little start But I was more freaked out there thought one of our guests was like totally having some major issues based on the phone call But amazing costume by the way, then he just proceeded to run around the rest of the night with a black light and Show people her face. Yes, so happy Halloween to everyone But yeah, I felt this strong pull to the basement and so we took peaches down there and there was the spirit down there It's been there for quite a while her name was Charlotte and brandy started kind of describing that you know This is the first time she ever seen Charlotte's filling sad or looking sad And Charlotte's one of my favorite spirits at Fort Douglas as in fact I always make an appointment I go to Fort Douglas to go down and talk to Charlotte. I've just had really good experiences with Charlotte She's cool. Well, so it got to point like where Randy was explaining her emotions like it got for me being an empath It got extremely overwhelming Oh, yeah To the points where like she was so sad that I just broke down started crying I tell sad that she was and where it's blessed heart was trying to console me I'm like this is my emotions man Just we just got to write this out This is an empath crap and then all of a sudden the the sadness went to anxiety and It was kind of revealed to us that you know Randy's talked her several times throughout the years and asked her if she wanted to go home or if she wanted to cross over And she's always refused But like so once that once that sadness kind of went away turned anxiety It was just she was going home.

She was ready to go. Yeah, it's almost like I switched it flipped it She was ready to that to cross over Which it was nice because I asked her several times if she wanted to cross them like you said Tim She's always refused So it was in fact I don't know that I've ever seen a spirit cross that eagerly I've seen peaches cross spirits over several times and usually there's a lot of coaxing and hey, you know You yourself into that bright light. It's not gonna hurt you. She was kind of in a hurry to get over Yeah, most of them kind of take their time kind of skaters like I don't know you do I trust you what's a big right light Is a bug zapper right?

They don't know because I don't know me so but it takes a lot for sure I mean what other choice do they have besides staying here, so What was interesting the last night is there was a lot of a kind of heavy energy in that in the main building Yeah, especially after Charlotte left there was a couple spirits. They were not extremely happy with us And I just keep in mind and I'd like to reiterate this fact that when we go to public events We're not there across the spirits over We're just there to communicate But if we do have a spirit that approaches us and ask to be crossed over we don't tell them now right Charlotte It was one of the few exceptions just because of we've had a lot of conversations with her So we've asked hey, do you want to cross over? She says no, so we've never forcibly crossed I think she was just Like you know all the people that would come visit her but now The world is a different place than it used to be and I think she just after what happened to the University of Utah Student that was shot and killed on campus, which was too bad. I feel for her.

That was like the straw for her I was like this is just too much. I can't sit here and deal with that Wasn't Charlotte murdered herself. Yes. Yes, but it's because she was a prostitute, but you know But it was just like that was the last straw she'd seen too much violence and she was done with it So so that was kind of I was there for that and I was a really new experience If I told him I said sometimes I wish I could feel some of the impast stuff you do any I would gladly give it to you If I could and like I said I was very specific when I made that statement I said sometimes because I've also seen it look like it sucks really bad it does But I've come to realize and it's been kind of revealed to me recently that Being empathic like I am is actually very vital to being able to do the energy work and energy healing that I do with people I think part of being that empath is what helps me feel the shift in energy and then when I'm doing the energy work So if I didn't have that I wouldn't be able to do the energy work that I currently do it as effectively as I do now I'd be in a blind painter pretty much so as far as yes experiences go I know that we had a lot of activity in the library.

Yeah, it started off The one lady got scratched on her face. Uh-huh. I think we had someone that's got scratched on their back or got pushed We had people getting touched and kind of just being messed with a little bit I know there are some audible sounds that recorded in the library and they everybody in the group heard it And actually you went back on the recorder and played it back and actually can hear the audible sound I haven't since the investigation was last night I haven't heard back many guests yet on the EDP's because a lot of times I'll send us some of the EDP's they get Was it you Tim who saw a shadow and look out the window and you couldn't find any? Yeah, actually I saw a shadow moving behind lurch and I mean we were in a part of the building It's right next to the exit of the main building right before the stairs and I started checking the windows and there was nobody outside Because I saw a lot of that too like people walking around because we had a group out in the courtyard there But I looked and there's no one by any of the windows There's no one that walked in front of a light or anything It would cause that shadow and the shadow like the way he was sitting the shadow would have gone in front of him anyways It would have gone on his face not on the wall behind him Well, and I noticed another group there was getting a man ovelus and the ovelus kept spinning out relevant words all night long And the other says one of the pieces of equipment that I'm kind of like eh cuz I mean sometimes it just sits out Stuff like rutabaga, you know, I always have fun on it Spits out words like that because you heard like rutabaga.

Did you worry your rig of farmer? You know, they'll try and make it relevant. They're reaching. Yeah, they try and make it relevant You know in my opinion the obelus is been not garbage But everything that would it was spitting out last night was relevant to what they were asking and down the past they were going Well, and I remember there was one name they got Isabelle on the obvious list and brandy was actually able to confirm that That was the name of a spirit that was in a different building on the venue.

Yeah, so it was really fun really active night I think everybody had a good time and we will definitely be going back. It's one of our favorite venues to go to So we're looking forward to that So let's talk Halloween tradition since this is airing on Halloween sweet. Yeah, so um mine By the way, we're gonna do your favorite Halloween tradition. So we're gonna ask you guys What is your favorite Halloween tradition?

So if you have any so that'll be our listener question if you go to the apps The advanced printable Facebook page that is our question for this particular podcast What is your favorite Halloween tradition that you have done? It can be unique it can be Just plain Jana. I want trick or treating. Do we want to talk a little bit about our poll from last episode?

Let's do that. Let's do that. Let's do that first time. I'm gonna talk Halloween traditions.

Okay So I know me personally I picked Ed Gean I don't know if you were familiar with this guy, but this was a guy that lived I believe in Wisconsin during the 50s And this guy had me with constant this guy he was a farmer and I mean this guy in my opinion was so psychotic that it was Just the stuff he did was crazy and I heard over the time It was so bad what he did he actually spawned or was the inspiration for three different movie characters throughout the years He was actually the inspiration for Leatherface and the the the family there from Texas I'm Oscar he was the inspiration for Norman Bates and psycho and he was also the inspiration for Buffalo Bill and Silence of the Lambs So what this guy actually didn't real life is he would kidnap larger women and bring them back to his house And he would like time up and start them on purpose So they would lose weight and their skin would get loose he would then Skin them like Buffalo Bill did inside the salams and he would make dresses out of these women's skin and he would wear them He was also had some cannibalistic tendencies and he would decorate his house He would make he would make like lamp stands and other furniture using their bones And that's where the Texas chance on master comes in because they actually did that in Texas hands I'm asking her they were they were cannibals and they decorated the house with bones of human remains But he was a fun Christmas gift giver probably well and here's the here's the top it all off The reason why he was doing all of this and this is where Norman Bates comes in from psycho is that his dead mother was Constantly berating him and telling him that he was no good and basically just he had some psychotic breakdown where He literally thought his dead mom was talking to him and It drove him to the point where he was committing these heinous acts. I had a favorite show up to my book to that guy No, it wasn't you know the one that comes to mind and I don't know if many people remember him But his name is Gary Arthur Bishop. He was here actually in the Salt Lake area, but he kidnapped young boys and basically Yeah, he's real real stuff to them Yeah, the reason why that one is so prominent for me is because I was of that same age range when that was going on And I remember that you should be on those things where you got to play and you'd be like oh because they didn't know who he was To be anxiety if you're gonna get snatched up or not It was always kind of the back of your mind of you know don't talk to creepy stranger because Danger danger boys my ajord is paying off the streets of Salt Lake City No building towards a van that has kittens or candy Candy for candy stencil on the side Yep, and so that's the one that kind of sticks out in my mind is because I had legitimate fears of that when I was a child They caught him shortly thereafter and I think you'd executed him, so he's no longer around Next how about you Brandi you got a favorite? Oh?

You know what I've studied three of colors before but I don't know It's kind of psychotic and kind of freaks me out a little bit things out my twisted side So I don't get too much into it. I do not like John Wayne Gacy I was waiting for that kind of yep because of the whole clown thing I think that's statistic and disgusting and I couldn't do with that As far as like Hollywood's I guess serial colors. I like cannibal so had a bollocks yeah, so I believe let's see We got Sean Keith Daniels Jr. And our fellow investigator Mark McLean both agree with you on John Wayne Gacy They think he's the creepiest yeah, we have Nicole D.

Hell and I want to give a shout out to Jordan L Miller they both said David Parker Ray the toy box killer This guy after learning about this guy because I never heard of him before they started talking about him That name sounds kind of similar to the guy who was the ghostbuster song it kind of hurts me a little bit dishearing it and I don't even know this dude I think he would be a very close runner up if not a tie for first in my opinion He was so sadistic and they they talk I can't remember the exact term they used but this guy was so like he had some weird like sexual Addiction or basically he would kidnap and like torture women and Basically like one person said that they actually would like let dogs rape these women and they just sit there watch And he did this over the span of I think it started in like 1996 so this is more recent guy So he's a women hater so it makes me think maybe he would like cut their breasts off or well Like that he actually had two women that helped him do this And I guess they had like I guess they had parties and stuff where they would invite people over and they would torture and abuse these women So like a party Michelle Burns said Ted Bundy Mike Finley and a couple other people Mentioned Jeffrey Dommar just kind of the normal serial killers that you can hear about a lot Yeah, I say Ted Bundy's kind of creepy in and of himself. So that was last week's listener poll this week's gonna be Favorite Halloween traditions. Yep. We want to talk about ours now or do we want to wait until next episode We can talk about it now since this is coming out on Halloween it might as well it is Halloween So peaches what you go ahead and start with what your favorite Halloween tradition is okay So I have four children total two of mine from a previous relationship and the other two being my husband's and Every year from kindergarten to you know, sixth grade, you know grade school age I would make their entire class little individual gift baggies with you know pencil and some fake teeth and some candy and whatever So they enjoyed that and that's times four children.

That's a lot of Kids to make bags for it's like 90 to 110 Holy smokes and then for them specifically I would go and make a little gift basket a larger size with their favorite candy is some money and You know things like that they can use at school individually just for them That's their trick or treat from me okay, and I've done that since they were like, you know one Tim I Don't really do this anymore because I kind of get older and I work the swing shift So I'm usually working Halloween I consider how the tradition is getting dressed and going to work Yes getting dressed and going to work and being productive member of society So during my like middle school years and high school years I had to hit my girl spurt you know around then so I was pretty tall and there was a costume I used to wear it was those no-face mask costumes that had the velcro mask that went in the hood you could see out of it No one could see in and we had this bench that was on our front porch And what we would do is we had like a fake like skeleton the plastic skeleton We put on one side The other was those little like stuffed bags that you get like Frankenstein monster and you fill with leaves And you set it on the other side and then I would sit in the middle So it just looked like you had three different decorations sitting on our bench and then we had a table outside They had the candy on it So we didn't have to answer the door But we'd also like pick some creepy music and play it and sometimes like kids were just too afraid to even walk up the driveway But forget reason yeah, but what I would do is like I could tell the kids were too scared I wouldn't really do anything but I would when they would reach for the candy I just kind of jump out and scare But it's horrible. I know that was my well My other favorite tradition is just my brother has a Halloween party every year And it's fun dressing up and going and saying people you don't get to see every that often But that again kind of died for me when I started working the swing shift I can't really make the parties and stuff anymore Yeah, I had to my first was when I was a kid we used to car pumpkins And we always carve them like the day before or day of Halloween because we don't want to get gross and moldy because they dig Gross and moldy if you carve them too soon. Yeah, but when I was a little kid people always smash our pumpkins So we'd keep them inside it's on Halloween We'd actually put them on bar stool and prop in front of the picture window So people could see our pumpkins, but they couldn't smash our pumpkins you bastard you pumpkin smashing sons bitches I don't have strong feelings at all about that. Then I was like older I used to do really complex costumes like liquid latex masks and I would just make these I'd make myself basically unrecognizable But as I got older that got harder because of things like work and other things beyond my control I don't like you know, I just thought of a better one I mean there wasn't something that I did one of my neighbors did this one you're growing up And it was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen so what he would do is he would have his pumpkins out on his porch They had carved and then he had his window for his living room the basement like right next to the porch So and he had it open enough to where he could see out and see when people are coming up And he had like a microphone get up there so Like there's a speaker he hit it somewhere like he did this really good because we could never figure out what the speaker Any of this stuff was but he would sit there and have like full on conversations with the trick-or-treaters as the pumpkin Oh nice.

It was really cool. That's my opinion again It's not something I ever did but that would I would have to say that was my favorite tradition So that is our listener poll we want to know what your favorite Halloween tradition is that even if it's a short-lived tradition Just kind of your favorite Halloween memory So go to advanced paranormal's Facebook page and we want to hear from you guys and we will do some shout outs on our next episode Yeah, so let's move on to weird paranormal news before we get to our main topic for this particular episode And I've actually got two stories for us for the weird paranormal news In Da Vinci High School in Sacramento The police are currently conducting an investigation one of the students there at the Da Vinci High School in Sacramento brought cookies for all his classmates Sweet delicious cookies and I see a lot more than a game. I heard the story They weren't pot cookies But apparently the student took the ashes of grandpa and grandma and make them into the cookies that all his fellow students ate So disgusting so not really paranormal per se but it kind of follows along with the lines of a Some of our earlier topics if I were gonna eat human I would want to like barbecue it and slather it and eat it like a sandwich Not in ashes. That's great.

All right, okay. Um, I told you I have no problem with cannibalism I'm glad that you're my best friend. I'm Cassel. This is beaker and on our right.

We've got dumber dumber reincarnated Last I heard they actually confiscated some of those cookies and we're actually testing them to see if they have the human remains You know my thought on the whole process is wouldn't that be like ready? I mean, how do you carry that off? Do you like those pecan sandies that are just kind of gritty anyway? I have no idea.

I don't know if he was like a molar and really grind that stuff down in the food process or maybe I don't know I mean they did in South Park Cartman made that kid eat his parents and the chili cook off Yeah, so you can make it out of chili that would be fantastic I could eat that there's a high school student there's a better hot potter and gritty crop Make something good at it. He's a better hobby. He's already got a hobby apparently, but he needs a better hobby Okay, my second story and this actually followed from last week where we talked about the funeral home that got shut down because I had mold on the Bodies and they found Fetus's and stuff in the roof apparently because of that particular news story Detroit has shut down another funeral home I saw that the Perry funeral home and this one they actually found 63 feet as I knew it was like a high number. That's crazy.

Yeah in box and then Tim's looking at me like what the hell is wrong with people she wants to kill and eat people and we got people hiding dead Kids in their ceilings. I don't understand what's going on now last episode We kind of asking about how that happens and the news story that I read kind of cleared that up apparently when There's like stillbirths or premature births usually creamy them. Yeah, they're sent to the funeral home and They're they're buried with closed caskets or cremated and so that's how this is happening and why the people don't realize that they're Their children are not being properly cared for whatever happened with a good old-fashioned prom night don't hear babies You know I never thought that would be hilarious, but I have to the circumstances. Oh, I'm gonna get some hang out for that.

Oh, yeah Family guy yes family guy. That's it. Yeah, so apparently if you need funeral services, I would probably not recommend Detroit Kind of a track record. I wouldn't recommend living there at all.

They have crappy gun control laws and like really high murder it up I was not getting politics though. Sorry about that. All right, so speaking of Politics let's dive into our main topic for tonight. Okay.

Peaches. Do you want to introduce our topic? Okay? So today we are going to because it's Halloween When this airs we'll be talking about the Salem witch trials today and so a few of us meeting myself and Other people that are not here have a direct descendant were a direct descendant of them some shape of form in our genealogy, so I don't know.

Do you want me to go first? Do you want to read your little spiel first castle? I should be all Because he's not he's not cool like me or his you know his sister. Yeah.

Yeah, I wifey Well technically my sister has ancestry and she's my sister well your wife doesn't you're a Sorry, let me do some genealogy and some work on it and she's actually been to Salem Which is why we wanted her on this episode Yeah, it's one she didn't show because I was actually expecting her unless she had a story she was going to tell us So let's talk a little bit about the Salem witch trials now Tim what you want to start out with rich trials in general because say which rowsers kind of a little blip in it Yeah, it's a very small part of the witch trials on because I believe the sale of which I was only went on for about a year Yeah, it was a very long where which trials in general went on for about 300 years all across Europe Europe I taught good And I know that there was a lot of different tests and stuff that they did to kind of try to prove that some of the witch one was the Those the dunking method where they would basically tie you to a chair and they had this big long lever that was attached They would dunk you in the water And the theory was is if you're a witch you would float because water repels evil yes water is a pure substance and repels evil So you would float if you're innocent you would round or you would sink to the bottom the problem with this is sometimes They didn't always save the innocent people on time unless people die. I think they're innocent when they died We can bring the church yard. Yes One of the other things they did they would look for the mark of the devil because if you had sold your soul or made that Pack to the devil you would have a mark on your body somewhere So sometimes they would find like birthmarks and be like okay, you made a pack of the devil one of the things they look for is they look for what they called the teat of the devil and What the teat supposedly did is we talked about this on a previous episode Which which is would have a like an animal familiar or like a spirit familiar that would kind of help them and aid them in their Evil doing and they're bidding and whatnot and this teat was used to feed that spirit animal or that familiar So one way they tested this if they thought someone had one of these is it would take a long silver needle I believe they would heat it up and they would poke and prod this thing And if it if it hurt or started bleeding they'd be like okay, you're good But if you didn't feel any pain and there was no blood or anything you were a witch Yeah, I mean at that they came out out out out. That's a little bit extreme You know what you think about if it's hot it's gonna cut right you're not gonna bleed anyway Some of the ways that they killed witches I know they they did do the the burning of the steak However, that never actually happened here in the states in the sandwich trial Europe had actually outlawed the burning of the steak about a hundred years before the sandwich trials ever occurred Now just where our listeners kind of the basis behind the whole witch trials and why they did this is if you go into the Old Testament There is a Ezekiel I believe yeah, I can't read the exact scriptural reference But there's a passage that says that shall not suffer a witch to live and so these really ultra conservative Puritans who are in the New England area basically kind of took that well as gospel pretty much It caused mass to Syria not only here during the sandwich trials, but during a whole witchcraft trials in that whole 300 year period It was just and they had the you know, like the witch hunts and whatnot and this happened here and say they also happened throughout Europe Basically people were just so scared that they didn't want to get accused of being a witch so they wouldn't write out their neighbors And their friends and family and stuff like that just so the focus would be off of them Right and it was it was really interesting we'll get into some of the details about here in a minute But really if you confessed to being a witch you usually lived Because their thought was if you said yam a witch and so is my neighbor Janice and my other neighbor Jane and my neighbor Sarah They basically say well thanks for telling us who else is a witch and they basically three imprisoned But they figured at that point is between you and God as far as your punishment went But if you insisted you weren't a witch and that could produce evidence that you were a witch if you didn't admit your guilt They just didn't take you out and hang you well and they they used to you.

Yeah, so we'll some so some of that so-called evidence was spectral evidence So if a person said that your spirit showed up to him and was trying to do you harm like I know astral protection projection is a real thing But people would claim that though their spirit showed up into the middle of the night And I was trying to like you know whip him with a cane or something I mean obviously there's no way to prove this but they would take that as actual evidence of them being a witch Well, it's interesting because kind of the thought was and we're kind of jumping way into the meat of it So we'll back up here in just a second, but the thought was that these women had made a pact with a devil and part of that pact was that he could appear to other people as Their form and so it wasn't necessarily them appearing as a spirit with the devil taking their appearance to torment other people on their behalf But this all kind of started there's actually it was Salem Village and Salem Town, which were kind of right next to each other And it started in Salem Village and there's kind of some interesting political Backing to this and I don't know. Did you either you get into the political aspect of this at all? I just listened to the part about where Men were the ones that could do the politics and they were the head of household and run the towns and stuff like that We're women were expected to stay home and clean the house and raise the kids and because of this They were more susceptible and they were more willing to basically enter this pact with the devil because the devil would basically They would have sex with the devil and they would become their his servants and they would worship him and spread his word instead Yeah, and that kind of really patriarchal kind of chauvinistic society really played into this But this all kind of really started with the pastor Samuel Parrish. He was a 39 year old Pastor he just kind of graduated from pastor school if you will he'd fail with some other businesses And his children were being is actually a his daughter and niece are being watched by this Servant basically she was a native American.

Well, actually to believe she was from Thank you. That's it was on my tongue Barbados. Yeah, I was watching the children now There's kind of a dispute in the town about paying the pastor half of the town Wanted to just go to Salem half of Salem village wanted to just go to Salem town For that pastor to have their own pastor which was Samuel Parrish Increase their taxes to pay for his wages and so half the town was not happy to pay extra money when they could just walk down the street to the Town to another pastor and so there's a little bit animosity there Towards this pastor Samuel Parrish Now his daughters started acting really weird And they had the town doctor come over to see what was up and the doctor couldn't figure out what was up Yeah, we're only having like fits inside of like when they were at church They started having these random fits yeah And I think they're having a home to their like having compulsions and Said their bodies were twisting in ways that were inhuman so they called him a local doctor and he shows up and goes I think you got witches son And so he can figure out what it was Now the servant actually from Barbados knew a lot of like magic she knew she practices practice to vote you uh-huh Her name was Titchobah by the way and she basically took the urine of who they thought it might be and mixed into a Rike and fed it to a dog To try and determine who the witch was well and the if the dog started having the same kind of fits then they Determined that that was a sign that that person was a witch who wants ripie cakes But this is crazy cuz back then too They also thought the dog was a servant of the devil yeah in fact and again jumping ahead a little bit somebody accused a dog of being A witch and so they shot the dog And there's really a prominent pastor at the time named cotton matters and he basically said well that dog wasn't the devil because if In the devil Kind of be their take on the whole thing anyway, but could have been evil because I want to die It was evil so from what I understand the whole sailing witch trials kind of started again was you had titchobah was teaching these two girls about Kind of what she did I know one of the things she showed him was like she had some Jarred that she lit like a candle on and had like oil or something a little over and she would tell him to look in it And then you would see the face of your future husband Oh, yeah egg whites yeah egg whites and you know if it started out with just these two these two girls and they were so fascinated and Thrawled by it they started telling some of their friends so the group grew a little bigger I think you got up to the point where it's like nine of them and it was when like you said when they started having all these Fits and the doctors like you got witches I'm going on you got witches on so one of the first things they did is they formed a tribunal in the town and the tribunal consisted of And these names are kind of well this first name is kind of important because welcome back to this first one was Jonathan Corwin who is a wealthy merchant in the town second one was John Hathorne Bartholomew Gedney and Thomas of Danforth Started this tribunal and the first thing they did is talk to this had you prance name again Tim I'm not gonna screw it up to chibah chibah They brought her in at first now. She was essentially kind of almost a slave She was like yeah, I say the sources I had had her is either a slaver servant So it was kind of unclear but yeah And so she was kind of in a position where she was more or less you know had been beaten quite a bit and very susceptible to coercion and That kind of thing basically I think she was in a position where she felt that she needed to say yeah I'm a witch and she basically named a few other people Sarah good Sarah Osborne at this time when Tichela was giving out these names These two people had actually already been accused of being a witch They were both elderly women in the the city.

They were both kind of they're I wouldn't say poverty stricken But they weren't very they weren't well off either Susanna Martin was a impoverished. She was an impoverished widow And then you had Rebecca nurse who is a 71 year old yeah, but the first three were Tichela Sarah Gideon Sarah Osborne And I believe when they got Tichela to kind of confess that she was a witch That's when she gave up the names of the two Sarah's and then she said there was six other names that she had personally Signed to the book of the devil and that Sarah Gideon Sarah Osborne's name were also in the book and then there were six other names But she didn't know who they were she couldn't see what the names were and so the town is all kinds of set because they assumed that there was other Witches among them whose names are in the book So they ended up imprisoning these women initially And what's interesting is once you get basically convicted or accused indicted there was a sheriff there in the town In fact his name was shared sheriff Corwin whose relative was on the tribunal would go in and illegally seize the property of these convicted and accused people And really it all kind of looks from the back end of this like they were profiteering a little bit off of this Which trial because there was kind of some relatives stuff going on and seizing property illegally now What happened is the witch trial start going on the governor sent down actually I think the governor was in England at the time doing something and the lieutenant governor came down Do you remember his name is Tim I've got here my notes. Let me find it You don't know what it is offhand no, I don't Lieutenant Governor William Stotten Now lieutenant governor Stotten was a really he was a true believer He was a really kind of tyrannical Puritan now the town council didn't have the authority to basically put people to death They could arrest people but they couldn't implement a death sentence And so this lieutenant governor came down and they started a court and they called the court the court of oil and terminar And this court ran from May of 1692 to October of 1692 and they were actually the ones who were starting handing out the death sentences in fact the Sarah Good Rebecca nurse Sarah Wilds and Susanna Martin were all three hanged. I want to say July 19th if I remember correctly I've got some of my notes, but I'm not gonna take the time to dig in there.

So if I'm giving this information too bad But they were all hanged, but they ended up arresting How many people did they have resting Tim? You know there was over 200 people that were accused and I know At least 25 of them were killed right what was interesting is one I can't remember the name who's the guy who's pressed it up to him Jals Corey Jals Corey actually testified against his wife In the trials and then they actually went yeah So what happened if that was Martha Corey actually and she realized that this was all completely insane what they were doing and she spoke out against the trials Saying that this was everything was absolutely unnecessary none of these people were witches So guess what she was a kid which she must be which because she's trying to stop the which trials She's trying to impede on their progress of weeding all the witches out of the town and like you said her own husband Jals Corey Testified against her after that he himself was accused of being a witch and he was put to death What's interesting with that though is with this old New England justice system You had to enter plea either guilty or not guilty if you didn't enter plea They couldn't take action against you and so what they did is they took him out and they basically they put Basically it planks over your body and they start stacking stones on on it It's been called pressed and it puts more and more pressure on your body And yeah, it's basically a form of torture to try and get him to either plead guilty or not guilty And they just put on more and more stones over the course of honestly three days And they finally got to a point where you know They asked him they said mr. Corey What is your plea and he just said more weight and they stacked on some more stones and ended up crushing him to death basically So he just refused to to play their game now What was really interesting about these trials though and Tim you talked a little bit about spectral evidence. Do you want to get into that Just a little bit.

Yeah, there was several people That's you got in here There's Abigail Williams and Betty Paris they were two of the main people that kind of did the finger pointing and pointing out witches They claimed and I believe Rebecca nurse is one of the people that they and I could be wrong on that But they they claimed that people would come to them in a spirit form and either try to convince them to come and sign the book of the devil or basically try to torture them at night and Like you said it's possible that you know the other thing is like that the devil could have taken on their form or whatnot but Yeah, they basically and they did this in the during the trials to like they would be in court and all of a sudden They'd be like oh her spirits over here and she's telling us to do this and they would be like no That's I'm not doing that basically basically these girls were I don't remember what their motive was but I think it was just they thought they felt ashamed and Growing up the being Puritans, you know the stuff that they enjoyed the teacher was teaching them was basically forbidden and And and when they kind of think someone found out that they were practicing the stuff and doing it And they felt bad and ashamed that they were doing this So in order to take the focus off of them they kind of started pointing out other people saying that they're witches They made us do this one thing that was interesting is during the actual trials like if they accused like move their head a certain way These four or five girls would like kind of going to hysterics like they were being Hexed if you will kind of like if you're to wave your hand at somebody and they like fell over pretending that you like shot like a Lightening bullet and they're they kind of do that kind of thing So if you use it like move their head to the right The girls would kind of throw their bodies to the right and start screaming and freaking out and if they move their head to the left They'd kind of throw them stuff to left and freak out And like you said Tim it was her you wish no, you know They'd look over and off and the girls like and freak out and they'd be like well then how come girls were freaking out? Yeah, I don't know well and it's one thing we did kind of skip over here. It looks like Towards the beginning of all this there was a outbreak of smallpox Correct and they caught Mather he actually accused looks like her name was Martha Carey of starting this plague of the smallpox via witchcraft So I mean they were reaching pretty much for any excuse to convict someone for accusing someone being a witch Well, this is also 1692 and I mean really lots and lots of superstition There's actually kind of a belief that North America was kind of the devil's continent You know you had and this is what they believe this isn't me being a racist But you know Native Americans had dark skin and so dark meant they were evil and so that was part of their belief Is it since Native Americans were dark that they were evil and because the Native Americans would come right their villages? You know they just kind of believe this was the devil's line to begin with so there's just a lot of weird So ignorance was blessed at that point.

Yeah ignorance the superstition and just they would kind of Well, a lot of things that you know most people that went to that came to the Americas were sent here because they were being rejected by England Well, they wanted not to live under English rule run under their own, but yet they're gonna run to it supposedly the devil's playground Why would you do that to yourself? Right well, they were gonna make their house their city on the hill. They're called their city on the hill where they're gonna come make their little Pyrtanical Paradise was kind of their thought One one interesting thing kind of back to the witch test a little bit is they believe that a witch couldn't recite the Lord's prayer In fact one of the earlier which is that were accused was from Ireland and she basically spoke Gaelic and they tried to get her to recite Lord's prayer and she couldn't do it because she doesn't speak English and so they'd be like Our father who art in heaven and she'd be like my father who I mean she'd mess it up So she's a witch and then you know putting her to death ended up hanging her as well What's interesting and we talked a little bit about Samuel Paris the pastor who this all kind of Focused around there's a pastor before him whose name was George Burroughs And this kind of gets back into the political aspect of it a bit George Burroughs was pastor before Samuel Paris and What do these piercums do is if they didn't like their pastor and they wanted to get rid of them They would just not pay their pastor bill and so the pastor did any money and he was kind of Like if you work quick give me your paycheck, what do you do? so there was kind of a prominent family in Salem Village the Putnam's and They ended up taking this pastor George Burroughs to court This is before the witch trials because he couldn't pay his debts because he wasn't getting paid to be the pastor And he actually was able to prevail in court that hey I can't pay my debts because you assholes are not paying my wage And he actually managed to prevail but hey, I'm can't pay my fines because the city's not paying me to do my job I don't know and so the Putnam's were not real big fans of a Georgia Burroughs because it kind of embarrassed him in court and one of the Putnam girls was one of these accusers for the witch trials So when George Burroughs came back into town, he ended up getting accused as a well, must not use that word I'm uncomfortable getting accused as a Witch and basically he was called out as the leader of the witches They claimed that he was you know this leader the witch and Cotton Mathers who was kind of this big muckety muck pastor at the time Basically came out and said well George Burroughs isn't a licensed pastor because he doesn't have organized congregation He just kind of he's an itinerant pastor and under the pure tentacle rules at the time you had to have an organized Congregation to be considered an ordained pastor but they put him up on trial and they had kind of the spectral evidence that they brought up against him and They ended up convicting him of being a witch And what they would do is they take you out to and I go do you guys remember the name of the area where they used to do their Hanging's you know, oh no, they mentioned that several times in the video and I completely forgot that was Anyway, they took him up there to hang him and it wasn't hanging like you see in the old west where they basically drop The trap door and you'd fall in your neck breaks and you just die right away They would essentially have you kind of walk up a ladder They put the rope around your neck and then they just kind of like push off the ladder And you basically just strangulated unless you're really fat.

You just kind of choked it up, but as he got up there And again, he's a pastor Cotton matters happen to be there for his execution and he got there and he recited the Lord's Prayer verbatim word for word No mistakes prior to being hanged and the village was kind of like You can see Lord's Prayer What do we do? Maybe he's not a witch and they're actually getting ready to take him down and cotton matters Interjected that well the devil can appear as an angel of light and so that's why you can do it hang him And so they ended up, you know, shut him off the ladder and down he went At the time there's a heat wave and they actually buried George Burles in a really shallow gray fact they said so shallow his chin and his toes stuck up out of the dirt jello So kind of an interesting side note there He was considered to be this leader of the witches. Oh leader of the witches. How are you gonna see that?

Okay? Tim you look deep in thought over there. He is deep. Keep talking Him is researching I was trying to find the name of the hill so death Hill I don't know these it got to a point where basically the jails in the area were just full Ipswich jail is the jail that a lot of these accused witches were in and the thing that sucked out these particular jails is Remember I talked about Sheriff George Corwin who is out basically seizing and taking possession of these properties and sharing the spoils with his relatives being a wanker Yeah, basically part of the process with the jails in these days is that it was kind of a pay-to-stay system If you're in jail you had to pay for your food Your water if you want to frustra in your sale that cost a little bit too And so every day you're in there it actually costs money if you didn't have money They feed you some bread and water but essentially anything beyond just enough to keep you fairly alive.

Just do that now Gallows Hill Gallows Hill. Yeah, that makes sense Where they come up with that name a little stretch But they would stay in this jail, but they have to pay to stay in there One of the facts are a good the first victim that was accused her four-year-old daughter was also accused and convicted of being a witch as well Yeah, and you know I'm safe. I'm not making this up her daughter's name is Dorcas But they actually made special a yeah, don't look me like that That was literally her name. It was Dorcas good All right, I promise I'm not making that up But they made special shackles for her because she was so little to any adults I shackles would just slip off and what sad is they actually imprisoned her with her mom Instead of good last year Newborn child was she was in jail before she was hung and Dorcas ended up actually going insane The little child did so it's too bad.

There's a lot of casualties involved in this even beyond just the basic stuff. Yeah, so there was a little total of 24 25 deaths during this whole thing 19 of those were hung you know Jaws Corey those press to death and then you have like four or five others that died while they were in prison waiting for the trial to happen Yeah, these again, this is a new England prison So in the summer you got to figure it's got to be a sweat box and winter time. It's got to be like living in a deep freeze Just kind of a really awful time now. Did you guys want to talk about anything else about the witch trials before we talk about how they wound down?

I can talk about I have I am a descendant of a witch that was killed So but her story is tragic. She was actually a witch of Windsor, Connecticut Her name was Lydia Gilbert Basically it says according to these little blurbs on my genealogy that it began in 1647 that my aunt was charged with witchcraft And then it says prior to that time her husband was Thomas Gilbert He was also they guess they had they were boarding somebody named Henry styles and he was about 52 years old it says that Lydia kept the house and the other gentleman would go and use our thing that whole life style choice that they have and it says that On November 3rd 1651 a neighbor named Thomas Allen was participating in a training exercise For the military type of thing and they were discharging their rifles and apparently This guy the Henry styles that was boarding was killed There was an accidental discharge and the person that had that discharge was Put a trial and put to death because they said that you know he was a witch I told them you know discharge was not how they do things So there's no way that that could have ever happened and so he was put to death. It was later on that they Decided that it was a wrongful death Then they tried to accuse Lydia my ancestor She was the one who made the accidental discharge happen kind of like possessed this guy to you know to do that And so she was accused and sent us to death So she was hung and then after she was hung nobody could find her body. Which yeah Basically said okay So it's own record that she was tried hung and what the verdict was and after she was dead They couldn't find her body and such I did some research on that and a lot of times if they thought because you weren't a Christian So if you didn't die a Christian death that you were not to be buried You had to be like thrown in a ditch somewhere in some random place Yeah, they wouldn't let you be buried in a churchyard if you were considered witch Yeah, that's what happened with all the people that in the Salem witch trials like a lot of the people that were hung They have no idea where their bodies are because they weren't allowed a proper Christian Christian burial So basically at that point her body is lost whatever family member she did have She was the fifth person to be hung and tried in Connecticut anyway But they couldn't find them and so when her body is lost and then to what some point in Salem They did the whole bring a pardon all these souls and so a bunch of a list of people that were tried and they were all part and but because My relative name was not on the list because it was in Connecticut and they weren't doing that sort of thing in Connecticut at that time She was never part so her body is lost and she's still considered guilty Ah, so she's got to be like a torture soul now What's interesting and that kind of comes into how the Salem witch trials ended they have in September of 1692 It's kind of when they ended up hanging a bunch of them and the governor actually came back from England So that's kind of the backlog of 200 some odd people that were locked up We clogged in the jails up as accused witches and kind of went what the hell is going on?

So he basically canceled the tribunal that was set up to convict all these witches Well one point even his wife was accused of being a witch That was part of it too is cotton matters dad was alive and his name was increased matters And you had the governor and they kind of got wind that basically their wives were about to be accused and they started kind of Seeing the writing on the wall that hey nobody's safe And then some of the townspeople are starting to get kind of fed up to and we're starting to get real vocal And so they basically called it into this tribunal And I think all the deaths and just kind of nobody's safe anybody who does anything as a witch I think people start to realize just Living under that constant curtain of fear Kind of shock them into it get into reality check if you will Well not just that if you are killing all these people and the bodies are gonna start adding up And that brings disease and all kinds of other Disgusting things and a lot of those families that can find they would go in the ditches and book for their family members They're always dead decaying bodies And they would take them and go bury them in like a farm backyard or no on somewhere out of the way But they'd give them a proper burial, but it was just nasty Yeah, so that was kind of the end of the I believe increase was even like kind of put a stop to the whole you know the spectral evidence and you know It's like you can't really convict these people like actual legitimate evidence like you guys are doing this all wrong It was it was increasing But who's basically caught matters father and the governor's kind of hold on spectral evidence isn't really a good You know It's funny because in a modern court of law if you had people in the stands like freaking out every time you looked at or moved your head The judge would be like yeah, I get them out of here and the defensive turn He'd be like yeah, I get them out of here But in those days it was kind of guilty till proven innocent and there was no such things defensive Yeah, they didn't have words or anything they basically their accusers would accuse them stuff and they had to defend themselves Mm-hmm in fact it was actually this kind of these kind of trials of prove your innocence and You know guilty till proven innocent that actually changed our justice system to what it is now Which is the innocent self-proven guilty because it increased matters actually wrote that he'd rather seen accused which go free Then you know allow these innocent people to be hurt and literally the same on which trials was kind of the turning point on these You know which trials and executions in fact They actually took it off the books because it was an actual law It was considered a sin against the church and a sin against the government to be a witch So it was something was actually in code and they ended up removing that after the single witch trials just because of all the The madness went with it There's a few theories on what caused this obviously I've kind of pointed out some of the political stuff that putnam's work kind of had an extra round one of the things It was really interesting if you look at a map of the accused versus the accusers All the accusers lived on one side of Salem Village and all the accused lived on the other side of Salem Village And if you look at those who wanted their own pastor versus those who didn't want to pay the extra taxes I wanted to walk the Salem town that accused were those who did not want their own pastor And so there is a little bit of a underlying political current that happened with this Well There's also like if you were a wealthy person and you got accused you would lose your land and that was basically how you showed your Status back then was being a landowner and you were stripped of that So you're basically thrown into poverty if you were a quizzal witch and you lost like everything you had You know and part of these accusals too were basically people settling scores I mean once this further start going I could be like oh You know Tim's a witch I saw talking to devil and next thing Tim knows is he's there You know standing in the box being accused as a witch you know or if Tim is mad at me He could say I saw Castle do this and the next thing I know I'm a witch So people are starting to settle scores during this whole witch trial thing Well, yeah, and there's that and like I said earlier It's because of the mass hysteria like you don't want the thing to point at you you're afraid that something's gonna accuse you So you're gonna throw someone else's name out because you know if if you're not a witch Obviously you're gonna be like well this person did this to me or I mean if you were accused yourself you'd be like well You know this person helped me because you know you don't want to have all the focus on you so Vendictiveness it was basically a lot of folks throwing a lot of other folks under the bus is what it comes down to But really that's kind of it as far as say the one straws goes or anything else you want to cover well They did mention in the the documentary that I believe there was like they had a day Where basically everyone just kind of like set a prayer because I realized like what they were doing was wrong This was after the trial and I think they said it was like five years down the road that everyone just kind of realized like What they were doing was completely asinine and it took them like I said at least five years for them to kind of realize that you know You know we were wrong for doing this Yeah, in fact there was a as Pete just mentioned there was a government apology down the road One one of the accusers made an apology this that she didn't agree She's only one of the accusers made an apology I forgot to mention that when they brought in the initial trial the ones with the authority to put people to death When they came up their first death sentence one of the guys on that tribunal said You know what I don't want to be a part of this and he just walked basically and they had to bring in somebody else take his place You know kind of interesting thing and I was talking with my wife about this earlier and she brought up and she goes You know if you think about it you think that we're kind of too good to have something like this happen now They were too smart But we're not and she pointed out that we still have things like this happen all the time We just don't realize it, you know I'm not gonna wax political, but I'm gonna bring up kind of a recent incident that did happen and that's what the recent Supreme Court hearings You know there's an accused all that came out there was no actual trial or I mean there's basically an accuser and an accused And it was court of public opinion as far as whether or not this happened and that's happens all the time You know the court of public opinion in fact these days happens Almost on a daily basis you pick up any newspaper and look at a news story where basically someone gets just Escoriated in the news based on something they've done without any due process whatsoever Something you have those that are guilty to oh absolutely and they're very good at hiding it So absolutely and that's kind of why I'm standing away from names and getting really into the weeds with this But really a lot of folks get tried in the court of public opinion before they ever have a chance to have due process And yes, I'm our guilty some or not But I think kind of the lesson here for the West Charles for all of us is you know We need to look at the facts Ben Hanson said something when he was here for the paranormal expo that if it's worth having an opinion on it's worth looking into the facts And I think that really is something that every single one of us should Take into our lives with everything paranormal your daily life politics everything if it's worth hanging opinion It's worth taking a minute to look into the actual facts You know like no arrogance ignorance don't just pick a stance and stick with it And don't just take something else's word for it because the news doesn't always gonna tell you Yeah, they're not gonna tell you yeah, they always want to make it, you know They want the masses to sway one way or another or you know start. It's like the chaos theory They want to start things up. They want to sell ad space. Yep.

Anyway, so The wist trials and I thought this was interesting the woman that was kind of the whole started thing to But when they pardoned everybody she was actually sold back into slavery That's a pay for a jail fees the pay for a jail fees and some other the fees for the trials and everything that went on Yeah, and so I'll tip by the one who started all this end up walking at the end after all these other people had died and been in prison Everything else so anyway, that's it for episode again log on to our Facebook page advanced paranormal calm Tell us what your favorite Halloween tradition is or a favorite Halloween moment you remember Tim brand you guys anything else?
