Salt and Light
from Christ Reformed Baptist Church · host Brad Jordan
In Matthew 5:13–16, Christ moves from the character of kingdom citizens to their calling in the world. Those made poor in spirit, mournful over sin, meek, merciful, pure, and persecuted are not called to disappear into darkness or blend into corruption. They are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Their usefulness rests not in personality, popularity, or worldly relevance, but in grace that preserves, truth that exposes, and holiness that points beyond itself. Christ warns against tasteless profession, outward religion, and hidden discipleship, pressing every hearer to examine whether the life truly bears the savor and light of Christ. Good works do not save, but they reveal living faith and direct attention to the Father. The sermon calls believers to visible, humble, faithful obedience so that God, not man, receives glory. It summons unbelievers to come to Christ, the true Light and only Savior now.
