Salt & Light // Matt 5:13-16 Not long ago, nearly everybody in Australia would have identified themselves with some kind of Christian tradition or denomination. Not anymore. Less than half of our neighbours would claim the Christian mantle today. Some say that's a good thing--a sign of healthy progress and self-confidence. So what should we think about it? Does it even matter? Jesus tells us in the Sermon on the Mount that the presence of growing disciples in the world is a good thing for the world. Disciples are salt and light-- necessary for functioning and flourishing. But how does that square with so many reports of Christians behaving badly? And how do we, weak and distracted as we sometimes are, live up this ideal?
