¡SALUD! to Leading The Way

from KLRN · host KLRN - PBS in San Antonio

This week on ¡SALUD!, hosts Melanie Mendez-Gonzales and Jessie Degollado meet three Latinas who are leading the way in civil service, journalism, and communication strategy.  With 24 years of service in the San Antonio Fire Department, Valerie Frausto was appointed to Fire Chief in 2024 - becoming the first woman to lead the department. We hear more about her journey from Firefighter to Fire Chief. Nora Lopez’s love for journalism began at her school paper in Edinburg, Texas. Her studies at the University of Texas Pan American (now UT Rio Grande Valley) along with helpful mentorship set Nora on the path to eventually becoming Executive Editor of the San Antonio Express-News. There seem to be dozens of seminars, conferences, and summits that offer professional development – are they worth it? TalkStrategy CEO/Owner Anamaria Suescun-Fast explains why these kinds of gatherings matter – and what they can offer up-and-coming leaders.  Catch ¡SALUD!, Thursday at 7:30PM on-air and online.
