Sam Weber

from Performance Anxiety · host Marc Shea

Sam Weber joins me, literally from the road. He and his band had just finished the final show of their tour the night before and Sam was driving their gear home. We begin by discussing his family’s love of music as a big influence on him. In fact his first band was him, his brother, and his father. He also describes how architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright can be considered influences to him.  Sam tells me how much he loves playing in a trio and how that makes it a lot easier for him to be improvisational. For years he road tested all of his songs before committing them to tape. But that obviously wasn’t possible during the pandemic. So his plans for a big album with lush production shifted 180 degrees. But he would prefer that we consider the new album, Get Free, as a celebration of playing music together instead of watching Netflix.
