三观:年轻人是否该安静下来听从世界,认知到我的三观正在改变
from Quora Selected 附导读
As a teenager, should I shut up and absorb the world around me, knowing that my opinions and values will likely change?Jordan Yates, Currently a teenager, and have lived through the hell that entails.Written Jan 25Tonight, a friend of mine texted me:“I think being transgender is a choice, and here is why.”They broke down all this research and all these theories and why they were so incredibly sure that this had to be the case.I absorbed their words. I took in their arguments and ideas and what they had to say.And you can bet your ass in two seconds flat I had 3 browser tabs of Jae Alexis Lee’s answers and another 4 of Wikipedia up because I was not going to accept that without challenging it.We went back and forth, and eventually we both realized that we were talking in circles using information we didn’t quite understand and research we weren’t quite sure of, so we called it quits. But damn it, if we didn’t try. When someone presents you with new information or a new worldview, you have a duty to think critically about it and challenge it.People who never form their own opinions shut up and absorb the world around them. But people who truly want their values to improve and their opinions to change will shut up, absorb new information, and then hold it up to every test in the books to see if it stands.Don’t be idle. Ask and argue and confront until you either affirm your current worldview or find your worldview changed. That is the only way your opinions and values will change.
