There's a kind of rain that falls all day... small and patient... and never seems to amount to much. And then there's the August sky that opens all at once and rearranges the shoreline. That was Chicago last night. The Dogs dripped a run in — first inning, second, third... eight innings of soft, steady tapping. Then the DockHounds found the floodgate in the eighth. Six runs through the breach. Tonight: the Dogs tapped at the door all night long... and the Hounds kicked it off its hinges in the eighth.Now I've seen a lot of ballgames from this dock... but I've rarely seen a team score in eight of nine innings and still walk off the loser. That's what Chicago did to us. One in the first... one in the second... one in the third — steady as rain ticking on a tin roof. Meanwhile, the Hounds worked the deep water — a run here, a run there, never more than a breath behind. Brody Rodning took the ball and held the shoreline together... kept the Dogs from ever pulling away. They'd scratch a run across... the Hounds would answer.
