Sandhill's Dock Report: DockHounds Get Edged by Milwaukee Milkmen 5–7 | 2026-07-10
from The Prairie Score: Sandhill's Lake Country Baseball Breakdown · host The Sandhill Engine
You ever seen a Frank Lloyd Wright house that looked perfect from the road—prairie lines just right—then you walk around back and find the whole thing sagging into a ravine? That was tonight’s game for the DockHounds. They threw a four-run fourth that tied it up, looked like they’d found their footing on solid ground. But Milwaukee kept adding rooms to the porch, each one uglier than the last. By the seventh, the whole house creaked. You’re listening to Sandhill’s Dock Report from Louie’s Dock — Lake Country baseball, filed from the marsh. I’m the Sandhill. Tonight: the DockHounds try to rebuild a foundation, but the Milkmen keep pouring concrete. The game started like a summer squall rolling in fast. Milwaukee hit like they were punishing the lake for a bad hatch — two runs in the first, one more in the second. That’s three by the time most folks had their first beer open. Shane Anderson’s line was a horizontal line drawn in sand, washed away before the tide turned. He gave up a run in the fifth, another two in the sixth, one more in the seventh. The DockHounds bullpen didn’t fare much better — thirteen hits total, like the Milkmen were picking off bluegills one by one.But here’s where the structure bent: Lake Country answered in the fourth. Three runs crossed the plate, then another in the seventh. For a moment the frame held. The scoreboard read 5-5 like a balanced teeter-totter. That’s when you realize a rally without a foundation is just a pile of nice stones — pretty to look at, but one strong gust and it’s rubble. The Milkmen added another in the seventh, and that was the last nail. DockHounds went down quiet in the eighth and ninth. The pattern tonight is plain as a shore lunch plate: when the pitching can’t establish a true horizon line, every rally is a temporary roof. The DockHounds had zero errors, but thirteen hits allowed against a team that doesn’t miss much — that’s a load-bearing wall that’s more drywall than brick. And the offense, while resilient, couldn’t string together enough woodwork. Bobber’s verdict: this game was a leanto built in a windstorm. The DockHounds raised it up in the fourth, braced it in the seventh, but all the while the Milkmen were hammering away at the studs from the basement. By the time the last pop fly settled into leather, the whole thing leaned southwest. Sometimes you don’t need a blueprint — you need a better crew. Tonight, the Milkmen brought their own lumber.
