Of those, 12 million are totally blind, which means ¼th of the world’s blind population resides in India. These are incredibly large numbers. Urged by their uncle Late Sri. P. Balasubramaniam, who was a longtime friend and associate of the Sankara Movement, brothers, Murali and Sridharan initiated Sankara Eye Foundation in USA in the year 1998. Since then their progress has been phenomenal. Sankara Eye Foundation is entirely run by volunteers and works in multiple ways to make Sankara’s mission towards eradicating preventable blindness a reality.
