SAP HANA and Intel Bring Greater Scale and Lower TCO to Enterprises--CitC Episode 174

Alison Welch, Director of Ecosystem and Channels at SAP joins Conversations in the Cloud this week to discuss SAP HANA as well as the deep technology collaboration between Intel and SAP. In a recent IDC report, it was noted that right now there are 33 zettabytes of data in the world – and by 2025 the number will increase to 175 zettabytes. This presents significant challenges for customers, from data storage to insights extracted from the data. SAP and Intel have a decades-long collaboration to enhance enterprise technology and address challenges like this explosion of data. The companies work closely within labs and research facilities to collaborate on new technologies, like the 2nd gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor and Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory. This provides not only close alignment but also facilitates early adopter programs and helps support mission critical applications. And, it enables solutions like the new Intel Select Solution for SAP HANA, a recipe for an optimized deployment of SAP HANA based on high-capacity, non-volatile memory for high availability and quick database restarts. Alison notes that Intel Optane DC persistent memory helps SAP HANA increase memory capacity and scale, which allows the company the freedom to test emerging technologies and have comparable latency with more capacity per dollar. Ultimately this creates better TCO through greater uptime, lower costs, easier life cycle management, and a simpler technology stack.
