Sarah Bradbury joins me in the 4½ Inch STUDio for a conversation about songwriting, punk roots, performance anxiety, and learning to make music on your own terms. Sarah talks about going from playing bass in punk bands to writing and recording her own music as I Choose Izumi, and about the songwriting block that once made her wonder whether she'd be able to write again. We get into Song Machine, Guided by Voices, her DIY recording process, keeping the occasional mistake, and why punk can be as much about attitude and process as it is about sound. Along the way, we talk about the local music community, musical influences, playing live, the strange things anxiety tells musicians, and giving yourself permission to write the song even when you don't know whether it's going to be any good.
