Sarah Churchwell on The Great Gatsby

Sarah Churchwell is Professor of American Literature and Public Understanding of the Humanities at the University of East Anglia. She received her BA from Vassar College and her MA and PhD from Princeton University. She has taught at East Anglia since 1999. She is the author of widely discussed books including The Many Lives of Marilyn Monroe and, most recently, Careless People: Murder, Hayhem, and the Invention of the Great Gatsby (Penguin, 2014). She is also the author of several essays and reviews, many of which have been published in non-academic venues, including the Times Literary Supplement, The New York Times Book Review, The Spectator, The New Statesman, The Guardian, The Observer, Esquire, Harper's Bazaar, among others. She has also made many radio and television appearances, as well as ones on documentaries, too. She has been a judge for many literary prize and is a member of the Folio Prize Academy and a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, and a judge of the 2014 Man Booker Prize.
