Sarawak was granted self-rule on 22 July 1963, on the expectation that it would jointly form the Federation of Malaysia on 16 September the same year. This is the basis of Sarawak Day, and time to reflect on the place of Sarawak in the Federation. Melisa Idris and Sharaad Kuttan speak to Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak's Minister for Transport and a five-term assemblyman of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, representing Senadin for the Sarawak United People's Party.
