Satisfied Meyer now targets Wales
from Rugby Hosted by SABC Sport
The Springboks may have emerged 47-13 runaway winners against a star-studded World XV team at Newlands last night but Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer says it was a tough outing for his team and there are a few areas of concern ahead of their opening Test against Wales in Durban this week…… Meyer, though, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s ability to score tries after they managed to score six tries against the World XV and Meyer emphasizing the importance of executing their plays…… Springbok captain Victor Matfield said his team made far too many mistakes and their discipline was not up to standard but said that he was happy with the manner in which they responded in the second half……. Meyer was also not impressed with the way in which his team gave away penalties in the game and said that they will need to quickly adapt to Test rugby as it was not Super Rugby. Meyer has urged his players to change their mindset and adapt quicker to referees ahead of the first Test against Wales in Durban on Saturday…… Meyer is wary of the danger Wales will pose for the Springboks as he believes that they thrive in playing in dry conditions. Meyer has made a call to his player to elevate the way in which they play to another level…… Former Springbok coach and World XV coach Nick Mallett commended his team for the manner in which they took the game to the Springboks in the first half but admitted that their second half was poor……. Mallett believes that the outing was good for the Springboks in getting them battle hardened ahead of their series against Wales and Scotland and commended the Springboks for their organized play…… At the same time Mallett thinks that the Springboks will need to put in more work if they are to be successful against Wales especially the old guard of Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha and Schalk Burger who Mallett believes they contributed positively in yesterday’s game…….Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
