The Lord is compassionate and gracious.Bless the Lord, O my soul, / and all within me, his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, / and never forget all his benefits. It is the Lord who forgives all your sins, who heals every one of your ills, who redeems your life from the grave, who crowns you with mercy and compassion. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in mercy. He will not always find fault; / nor persist in his anger forever. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so strong his mercy for those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far from us does he remove our transgressions. R/. The Lord is compassionate and gracious.Gospel: Matthew 5: 33-37At that time:  Jesus said to his disciples, Again you have heard that it was said to the men of old,  ‘You shall not swear falsely,  but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’  But I say to you,  Do not swear at all, either by heaven,  for it is the throne of God,  or by the earth, for it is his footstool,  or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.  And do not swear by your head,  for you cannot make one hair white or black.  Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’;  anything more than this comes from the evil one.
