Saving Hillsboro’s Oldest Lighthouse

A century-old lighthouse in Hillsboro, Florida—the oldest monument in Broward County—stands as a beloved local icon, but corrosion is threatening its survival. With no federal funding and barely $10,000 a year from donations and local support, the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society is struggling to keep it standing. Once maintained by the Coast Guard, the lighthouse now relies on the very community it’s guided for generations to rally and save it before it’s too late.
