In this provocative discussion, Alan argues that many nonprofit arts organizations have lost their way, prioritizing exclusivity over impact. “Donors donate so that donors may attend,” he notes, criticizing the entrenched culture of elitist perks and private access. His biting analysis is a call to action: arts organizations must become true charities that serve their communities, or risk obsolescence. Alan ’s critique doesn’t stop there.
