C8 Energy has been operating for five years, growing from a startup with roots in a Canadian fleet's battery problem into a North American presence with installations at major carriers including Melton and Nussbaum.Maree explains how C8 Energy's Clean Tech Kit eliminates all lead-acid batteries from a commercial truck and replaces them with two core components: the SkelStart, a supercapacitor-based engine start module that delivers reliable cold-weather cranking with no hazmat concerns and over a million cycles, and a large-format lithium battery that powers the entire sleeper cab. Together, the system removes 500 to 700 pounds of lead-acid weight and replaces it with under 140 pounds of clean, low-maintenance technology. The result is effectively turning a sleeper cab into an RV, with stable power for microwaves, fridges, CPAPs, air fryers, and anything else a driver needs overnight.The numbers behind the technology are significant. C8 Energy calculates up to $9,000 in annual fuel savings per truck for high-idling operations, along with roughly $2,500 in reduced maintenance costs. Fleet data from Nussbaum showed one of their biggest idlers drop from over 40 percent idle time down to 3 percent after installation. The system installs in 5 to 6 hours at authorized mod centers and dealers, fits directly into the existing battery box, and includes a Bluetooth app so drivers can monitor their state of charge in real time.Justin and Maree also discuss the driver experience and the word-of-mouth effect the product has created.
