Due to the graphic nature of some of the topics we will be touching on listener discretion is advised Good evening. Good afternoon. Good morning What you're doing? I hope you're having a good day though.
My name is Matt. I'm your host. I'm here with my lekohost I'm Lisa tell her what's good. Hey, hey, oh, what?
Oh, never mind. This is one of those okay And we're gonna have to follow up on this case because this is developing and this just happened here in early October We're in early October still In Broward County, you guessed it Florida and hey shout out to Florida right now. We're all looking out for you I know we make jokes about you guys. We got a lot of friends and family down that way.
Please stay safe There's a massive hurricane heading your way. I hope everybody hears this and is safe and this hurricane explodes over nothing happens We're coming back to you from Florida Because and I found this out recently the reason that Florida has so many of these quote-unquote crazy cases is because Their law enforcement has some decree with the media where they have to release details of cases like they release all that happens And have to give full disclosures of dockets and everything that's on there I don't know the exact statute. I'm not sure what it is But like Florida is required to be upfront with their media about things like this So that is fascinating and also probably why we're constantly like Florida without Because they report and what's happening in Oklahoma and here in Pennsylvania and up there in Vermont and Alaska We don't know what you're doing, but hopefully it's not in too while this is pretty fucking wild though I gotta be honest. I was up to some bad shit when I was 14 We definitely all you know did some stuff, you know, we got in trouble with our parents Maybe at school somebody would have frowned upon some of my behavior at the time Costing saying things I shouldn't have said Thinking bad thoughts about doing stuff, you know, sometimes even doing some of that stuff Ag and houses, statute limitations, it's up.
I'll say it devil's not always fun around those years I never tried to kill anyone let alone a family member let alone my grandmother This is a story that is Thoremon at the beginning before I said all that but yeah, this is one of those Sophia Cobol Now faces a manslaughter charge. She's 14 years old After being accused of killing her grandmother in the Lauderdale Lakes area of Florida after she allegedly struck her with a belt and Quote unquote helped her die According to the Broward State Attorney's office. She will be charged as an adult even though she's 14 because she's being charged with second degree murder Which is Actually now I'm sorry. They just downgraded it to a manslaughter, which still is a very serious a felony The alleged beating happened in an apartment in the Pearl Con to Minions on northwest 41st Street again in the Lauderdale Lakes Authority responded there after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman, which was reported by the son of the victim Her name was Yevienia Cobol Yevgenia Cobol and her son called that his mother was unresponsive had gotten there to visit and He was gone from the hours of 7 to 12 30 visiting a friend and came back to find that his mother was dead and had abrasions on her neck and bruising on her arms face legs all beaten up and His 14-year-old daughter was the prime suspect After rolling her death on the side.
She was arrested Broward County Medical Examiner's office and it redacted a Rest report because I got my after report, but I felt it. I thought everything obviously so that there's something in these cases In a redacted arrest report the teenager allegedly told someone in Ukrainian at the scene that her reasoning Behind this murder was that quote the victim was already dying and that she had helped her die That person advised then in Ukrainian words that the teen used did not have a good translation of English But that was what she was saying Now I do want to stipulate here So be a Cobol According to her father has recently just moved to the US from Ukraine Which we obviously all know what's going on over there. We're sending our best of Florida We're sending our best of the people in Ukraine as well. Obviously there's a war going on terrible things going on atrocities being committed and according to her father She was displaying some behavioral issues Which she believed were from what she witnessed in Ukraine part of the war is obviously inflicted upon the people who were there Whether their combat combatants or not And she is separated from her mother unfortunately.
I believe her mother is still there He had actually her father had taken her phone the day of the murder of her grandmother Because he was trying to discipline her for something for some behavioral issues but I mean unbelievably like this child obviously acted out needed help but inflicted that on her grandmother Which is unbelievable on a matchable On her way to after being arrested on her way to poor Lauderdale behavioral health center Sophia allegedly again all this Ukrainian made spontaneous utterances that she killed her grandmother while her father was not residents and Redacted sources that the teen had never been diagnosed with mental illness But she'd been showing signs of being agitated and being a little bit more aggressive now again I'm sure she saw some crazy shit in Ukraine That's not something we would ever imagine people can relate to without having seen it. But again I think even at the age of 14, you know, you know what's right and what's wrong you'd hope But anyways on Tuesday, which would be Tuesday the Fourth Proficators formerly filed a manslaughter charge against her and she was moved from juvenile detention to the Broward County jail where she's being held in protective custody Being charged as an adult for manslaughter The maximum sentence for which is 15 years in prison which if she is convicted She could be sentenced to juvenile sanctions still because quote in the juvenile system Anyone found guilty and sentence would have to be released after a maximum of three years and could only be kept under supervision until the community In the community I should say until age 21 The state attorney's office said because she's not a US citizen. She could also be subject to deportation So a lot of layers to this lease One more quote I do want to read state attorney Harold Pryor said in a recent news release because of the heinous nature of the crime And after considering everything that's been presented by the defense so far I believe it is appropriate that this case should be handled in adult court We are considering all options and working closely with her attorneys at the Broward Public Defender's office to come up with an appropriate resolution That holds her accountable, but also factors in her age and the circumstances of this offense Whoo Lot on back here and as we said this is a wth 3. This is not a full length case I'm simply telling you guys.
I'm laying the groundwork for what I'm sure will be a very intense sad case to follow But at least what are your first thoughts here? I mean shit. I just don't understand what the talk happened here Yeah, she beat her to death of the bell beat her to death and then strangled her today. I believe it is.
Yeah That's I'm like what the hell like I Don't like I when I first heard about this. I was like, oh my god It's not on national news and I was like oh my god And reading more about the circumstances and again normally when we do these WTH3s you guys know I blind react to them But I found this one is like such a ridiculous story and there again are so many layers to it Especially with all the happening in our current world, you know We're in the US immigration is a huge issue right now. She's not a US citizen She's from the Ukraine where there's obviously a massive war being fought right now all kinds of terrible things happening over there atrocities again We pretend not to even want to fathom but they are existing they are happening. It's one of those things that we can't avoid But yeah, man This old plate out in her killing her grandmother in a Florida condo like Based on the way they're recording it right now We don't have a lot of like a lot of details per se But like it kind of reminds me of Austin Harris episode because it was saying that she was showing signs of being really agitated in the days I think up to this and she was really sleeping and that reminded me of with Austin Harris where like his family noticed like He thought he was a werewolf or whatever the fuck and his Wild shit and he was like outside like howling at the moon and a sister was afraid of him She was always he was always pacing back and forth I'm wondering if it's a summer situation that or if she was just an angry psychopath and just I don't know It just I don't know it's hard to wrap your mind around that when you're like a insane human being It just feels so insane But I think I mean I don't know how manslaughter it sounds like it was pretty calculated especially if she said she helped her die Yeah, I mean so that we're obviously gonna get to that question Lisa I'm like there's that's why I'm saying it's a lot of layers to her right that we have to take into account her age Oh, she's 14 like okay, but again, we always talk about nature versus nurture this girl spent what the last two years of her life So when she was like 11 or 12 living in we don't know where in Ukraine But there's a war going on there right like we can pretty much safely say that it's probably been affecting her no matter what So that has to come into play also the fact that I mean it's a family member I don't know how well she knew her grandmother, but she murdered her grandmother My grandma is my favorite person on the planet So I couldn't even tell you how that would even cross someone's mind But dude after all this kids been through like who knows what she was thinking also the fact that she was supposedly Doing it as like an angel of death type thing like a mercy thing She was saying because her grandmother was already dying in mind you she was 79 So like obviously an older woman, but not dead by any stretch We don't know if she was a lot doesn't say here anything.
I'm like what was she thinking that? That she was like oh well, I'm just gonna kill my grandma like she is dying anyways So we might as well like what dude there are just so many fucking weird Twist and turns to this case that I'm like we are going to be keeping up with the people listen when I tell you I want to know how this plays out knowing our justice system. I'll be checking back with him five years But no seriously, I mean there are so many layers to this lease my question is Big question right should she be charged as an adult if it helps the state of Florida thinks so they do I Think it just depends on the details. I mean not really you kill someone you kill someone like I don't It's just when I don't really care anymore How would you are especially in these like crazy brutal ways?
It's not like she boys and they're something not saying that's better But like you beat your grandma to death like that's crazy Like your grandmother Yeah, I mean I think she should be tried as an adult But maybe if they do find it some mental break with reality She goes to like an insane that's not horrible But like it's behavioral help help for the rest of her days until she'd be let out if for them What do you think? I mean, I don't think she shouldn't be charged as an adult like honestly and again like you said it sounds more to me like They initially tried to charge her with murder It sounds more to me like she had a reason for doing it She wanted you know whether it was a put her out of her misery type thing or not She sounded like she knew damn what was she was planning on doing and then she went ahead with it even if that didn't sound like the best thing at the time Which again, we're like we always say in these WTH three episodes. We try and keep them brief This is one where it's like it's not exactly it's more like a mini so trying to be like we're gonna have a prelude to this case Because there's a lot to be unpacked here, okay? And I don't I don't want to sit here and say like oh I can tell you I think she should be Found guilty or if I for and I was mad we're not here to judge that right now I'm saying you'll know because I'm looking at this from so many different places like dude I don't know I'm like there's a lot going on in this girl's head.
She's 14 years old. She's been through a war in Ukraine emigrated to another country Probably moved in with her dad who we don't know their relationship, okay, then factor in Like who knows what she saw over there? Who knows what her grandma was doing? Like if she was dying if she was healthy if she just perceived that she's dying like who knows like I really don't know.
This is one of those like heart-wrenching cases where you're like, ah, just why does this happen on this planet? Why does this type of thing happen? But that's why we're here to talk about these unfortunate things And yeah, this is one of those where we will be keeping up with it My initial thoughts that least are she should be charged as an adult She did try to commit the worst act you can commit against her grandmother, which is unfathomable You're like what the fuck already So whether her justification or her intent was good, I don't like that. No, no, no, no, no, no good So yeah, we will be in touch about this one guys.
