Scam or lifeline? Nevada veterans split over paying for help securing VA benefits

Roger Loesch spent eight years fighting the Department of Veterans Affairs for benefits he believed he had already earned. It took an unaccredited company two months to finish the job — and charge him for it.That’s the trade-off at the center of a growing fight that has reached Congress.In June, Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., signed on as a cosponsor of the SAFEGUARD Veterans Act, which calls for reinstating criminal penalties against unaccredited companies that charge unauthorized fees and aims to ban predatory tactics in VA benefit assistance.
