Scandalous Grace | Not What I Expected

By circumventing the established religious hierarchy, Jesus challenged the prevailing belief that God’s presence and forgiveness were confined exclusively to the rituals of the Jerusalem Temple. When He forgave a paralyzed man's sins before healing him, He assumed an authority reserved for the Temple system, shocking religious leaders who viewed this unauthorized act as blasphemous. He further dismantled these barriers by calling and eating with a despised tax collector, demonstrating that God’s mercy seeks out the "sick" and excluded rather than the ritually pure. Ultimately, this scandalous grace challenges us to abandon our own rigid definitions of holiness and embrace a God whose mercy disrupts our expectations.
