The Lord's Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer was Jesus’ way of teaching us how to pray in the Spirit. It’s a way for us to begin breathing in rhythm with the Spirit of God, and to allow Him to shape our desires to look more like God’s will for our lives.

Prayer Works
Prayer is how we learn to abide with God, and how God shares His power with us. God wants to say “yes” to our prayers, but we must learn to pray in His will, not our own.

A God Who Sacrifices
Most of us are terrified of death. Our obsession with control over life, and our desire to pursue pleasure and comfort and excitement, really comes from the fear of death. We all want to defeat death, but when Jesus faced death, He behaved in a way no one expected. He conquered death, but He did so by surrendering to its power. And He tells us that the only way to find life is to follow His example.

A God Who Never Stops Searching
Through three parables, Jesus illustrates God’s relentless commitment to reclaiming His lost children. Each story emphasizes an "all-out pursuit," culminating in a father who continues to seek and love his sons despite facing deep personal rejection. Ultimately, these narratives reveal a God who refuses to give up on those who have wandered away.

A God For People Who Aren’t Like Me or I Don’t Like
When Jesus went through Samaria, and revealed Himself as the Messiah to the Samaritan woman, He was extending His ministry beyond the borders of Israel. He extended it to their enemies, and their lost family members (the lost tribes of Israel). In this encounter, Jesus is revealing that His desire is for His people to look beyond those who are “like” them and who they “like”. We must bring Jesus even to those we often ignore, neglect, or reject.

A God For the Harassed and Helpless
God has deep compassion on those who are harassed, helpless, and confused. He longs to shepherd them to green pastures of rest and plenty. He longs to give them life. But Jesus says that the Lord of the Harvest needs workers who will go into the field, looking for who might be ready to receive the invitation of Jesus.

735
A God Worth Knowing
Just like the first disciples dropped everything to follow Jesus, we are called to make Him the absolute center of our lives. This means paying close attention to the people around us and asking God to help us see how He is already at work in their situations. By keeping our eyes and ears open, we can step up as "fishers of men" and invite others to experience how leaning into God can completely change their story.

734
Jesus and Suffering | Not What I Expected
Instead of trying to figure out who to blame for suffering, Jesus teaches us to see pain as an opportunity for God to bring healing and restoration right now. He challenges the idea that faith is just about waiting for heaven, showing us that God actually wants to fix the brokenness of this world through us today. If we focus only on religious rules while ignoring the needs of real people, we are actually the ones who are spiritually blind.

Jesus and the Law | Not What I Expected
While we often pit religion against relationship, Jesus demonstrated that true intimacy with God requires learning His language through the Law rather than defining love on our own terms. By identifying the commands to love God and neighbor as the "heaviest" obligations, Jesus fulfilled the Law and dismantled the modern, self-centered gospel of "being true to yourself." True life is found not in self-expression, but in making God the gravitational center of our existence and loving Him in the specific ways He has revealed.

Jesus and the Temple | Not What I Expected
Jesus rejected the corrupt temple system of His day to show that God’s presence is no longer confined to a building that excludes the poor and the outsider. Instead, He established His own body as the true temple and later poured His Spirit out on His followers, making us the living place where God dwells on earth. This means we cannot fully experience God in isolation; we need to be united with a diverse community of believers to truly function as His church.

729
Fear and Love | Not What I Expected
Although we often look to God for comfort, the disciples were actually terrified by Jesus’ miracles because they revealed a power that could not be tamed or controlled. We tend to want a God who simply fixes our problems, but true faith invites us to let go of our own agenda and submit to His plan to change us. By trading our desire for control for a holy reverence, we discover that fearing the Lord is actually the path to a love that drives out all other fears.

Scandalous Grace | Not What I Expected
By circumventing the established religious hierarchy, Jesus challenged the prevailing belief that God’s presence and forgiveness were confined exclusively to the rituals of the Jerusalem Temple. When He forgave a paralyzed man's sins before healing him, He assumed an authority reserved for the Temple system, shocking religious leaders who viewed this unauthorized act as blasphemous. He further dismantled these barriers by calling and eating with a despised tax collector, demonstrating that God’s mercy seeks out the "sick" and excluded rather than the ritually pure. Ultimately, this scandalous grace challenges us to abandon our own rigid definitions of holiness and embrace a God whose mercy disrupts our expectations.

An Unexpected Mission | Not What I Expected
In His hometown of Nazareth, Jesus announced Himself as the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy, declaring a time of divine favor, freedom, and forgiveness. However, the crowd's initial amazement quickly turned to violence when Jesus suggested that God's blessing would extend beyond Israel to their enemies, challenging their desire for an exclusive national restoration. This reaction highlights the human tendency to reject a God who offers grace to outsiders rather than catering to our specific entitlements. Similarly, modern believers are challenged to move beyond a purely spiritualized faith and embrace the uncomfortable reality that God calls us to seek justice and love those we are naturally inclined to reject.

Water to Wine | Not What I Expected
Life frequently defies our expectations through circumstances we cannot control, teaching us that we also cannot manipulate God through transactional religion. Jesus’ miracle at Cana illustrates His unexpected goodness, as He transformed water meant for ritual purification into the finest wine, symbolizing the shift from legalistic cleansing to the abundant joy of God's Kingdom. Unlike the first sign of Moses which turned water to blood for judgment, Jesus’ first sign reveals a Savior who brings life and celebration rather than condemnation. Ultimately, this story invites us to trust that God has saved the best for last in Christ, who provides goodness and mercy that far exceed our limited expectations.

The Baptism of Jesus | Not What I Expected
While we often start the new year striving for control over our circumstances, we inevitably discover that life is unpredictable and cannot be fully managed by human effort. This realization invites us to abandon the anxiety of control and instead pursue an interactive life joined to God. Jesus subverted expectations by arriving not as a military conqueror, but as the Lamb of God who was baptized to identify with our sin despite having none of His own. By uniting with His death and resurrection through baptism, we are freed from our slavery to sin and empowered by the Holy Spirit to walk in righteousness. True life is found not in autonomy, but in surrendering our will to the Father just as Christ did, allowing Him to live through us.

Be Joyful | Unboxing Christmas Week 3
This Third Sunday of Advent is all about Joy! We love the childlike wonder of Christmas, but as adults, we tend to put our faith—and God—into a neat, small box only to be opened in emergencies or on Sundays. This week, we tear open that box and look at the magnificent, surprising reality of God's active presence.Diving into the story of Mary and Elizabeth, we see God disrupting everyone's plans and expectations, showing up in the most unexpected places and people. Mary’s response, the Magnificat, is a song of profound joy rooted not in her circumstances, but in the unshakable goodness of God. We will unpack the difference between circumstantial "enjoyment" and true, pervasive Joy—a sense of well-being and hope that we can cultivate even when life is uncertain.Join us as we learn how to cultivate Mary’s deep, resilient joy by recognizing that God is active, good, and completely refuses to fit inside our boxes.

Be Surrendered | Unboxing Christmas Week 2
God often shows up in ways that interrupt our plans and call us into a life we never expected. In Luke’s Christmas story, we see two very different responses to God’s surprising work: Zechariah reaches for certainty and control, while Mary responds with humble surrender. Their stories reveal that the fullness of life with God isn’t found in understanding everything, but in trusting Him even when we can’t. This message invites us to loosen our grip, embrace God’s unexpected movement, and say with Mary, “May it be to me as You have said.”

Be Astonished | Unboxing Christmas Week 1
Join us this Advent season as we dive deep into the profound opening of John’s Gospel: "In the beginning was the Word." This is more than a simple Christmas story; it’s the astonishing truth that Jesus is the eternal Word—the Logic, the Life, and the Light behind all creation. The miracle of Christmas is that this infinite God became flesh and dwelt among us, not just so we could understand a theological truth, but so we could stand in awe and receive His life. This series, Unboxing Christmas, invites us to move beyond holiday clichés and experience the wonder of "God with us" (Emmanuel). We’ll challenge our assumptions and learn to recognize Jesus’s presence still showing up in ordinary life—in laughter, creation, and even in our pain. Our goal is to let the reality of the Word dwelling among us fill us with gratitude and love, helping us see God’s grace “on top of grace.”
