Schedule your emotions

from Rise Again From The Struggle · host Kevin Brewer

I talk a lot about not being responsible for other people's emotions, but what if you're the one not handling your emotions properly? This one's for you. When I was younger, I would track down someone to play a rough sport. Usually basketball. And we would get ROUGH! At times, I took it too far, and they let me know. Then we could talk, or punt some basketballs, and let the emotion cycle through. Then it was done.In the military, being deployed on subs, then the desert, that was rarely an option. Letting your emotions control you in those environments was also not an option. So, I learned to schedule it. If I needed a good cry because I missed my family or write some nasty thoughts down about someone on the crew so I could get my frustrations out of my head, I would set aside some time to be alone and do that. That allowed me to stay focused on the task at hand without having my emotions take control. And before anyone comments about aggression being a negative expression, just know that's a stupid and wrong belief. Men are aggressive by nature. Get over it.No excuses!
