Schindler Awarded “Historic” BART Escalator Contract

Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com SCHINDLER AWARDED “HISTORIC” BART ESCALATOR CONTRACT Schindler has been awarded a contract to replace and install 41 escalators at four downtown Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations in San Francisco, a project described by Schindler U.S. Operations President Greg Ergenbright as "historic," Schindler announced on November 26. Work on the multiyear contract, the largest escalator replacement in BART's history, is set to begin in spring 2020. Schindler will install 41 9700 heavy-duty escalators at the Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell and Civic Center/United Nations Plaza stations under BART's Market Street Escalators Renovation Project. Many of the units being replaced are among the oldest in the system, which opened in 1972 and has 48 stations. The Embarcadero and Montgomery stations are among BART's busiest, with more than 93,000 people passing through on an average weekday in 2018.
