Schloss Hartheim, ein prachtvolles Renaissancegebäude unweit von Linz, steht heute als stummer Zeuge eines der dunkelsten Kapitel der NS-Zeit. Hinter seiner idyllischen Fassade richteten die Nationalsozialisten eine der zentralen Tötungsanstalten ihres Euthanasieprogramms ein. Hier wurden zehntausende Menschen ermordet - Männer, Frauen und Kinder, die als "lebensunwert" stigmatisiert wurden.Gerade der Kontrast könnte kaum größer sein: Wo einst kunstvolle Renaissanceformen Idylle und Erhabenheit ausstrahlten, verwandelte das NS-Regime das Schloss in eine Maschinerie der Vernichtung. In den Kellerräumen des Schlosses spielte sich Unfassbares ab - ein perfides Zusammenspiel aus Täuschung, Bürokratie und Mord.Im Mai 1945 schließlich verließen die Nationalsozialisten um Rudolf Lonauer Schloss Hartheim, nicht ohne die Spuren der eigenen Verbrechen zu verwischen.
