Schmidt Passes on Guardians | Cleveland Guardians News

Twelve prospect Logan Schmidt, a top lefty pitcher drafted by the Guardians in the second round, shocks the baseball world by opting out of signing — rejecting their offer of under $1.7 million despite seeking $3–4 million. At just 18, he’s choosing college ball, weighing LSU (locking him out of the draft until 2029) or junior college (re-entering next summer). The Guardians get a compensatory pick at 60 next year — but Schmidt’s bold move signals a new era for high draft picks refusing to compromise on their worth.
