Schmidt Walks, Guardians Get Pick | Cleveland Guardians News

The Cleveland Guardians’ second-round draft pick Logan Schmidt won’t be joining the team after failing to reach a signing agreement before the deadline — but they’re getting a sweet consolation: an extra 2027 draft pick. At just 18, Schmidt, LSU-bound, still has options, including junior college or re-entering next year’s draft. While losing him stings, the Guardians secured their first-rounder Liam Peterson at full slot value and still have multiple early picks in 2027 to keep building. Scouts knew the risk — and now both sides move forward, Schmidt charting his own course, Cleveland refocusing on their draft strategy.
