Bij een opstand in 1986 vluchten de Filipijnse dictator Ferdinand Marcos en zijn vrouw Imelda naar de Verenigde Staten. Imelda moet haar gigantische schoenencollectie achterlaten. Een paar stormen, termieten, schimmel en nalatigheid hebben de legendarische collectie ondertussen grotendeels vernield. Met de 90-jarige Imelda gaat alles nog goed.
