Episode 10: School Choice & Educational Reform. Chris, Brian, and Andy return to start a discussion on educational reform. Looking at the CLPVA platform they note the position that the “culture war fight over our children’s education has grown to a fever pitch and continues to impede the actual purpose of our schools – educating the next generation. To short circuit the culture war,” the CLPVA platform calls for implementation of school choice throughout the commonwealth and details five specific positions. In this episode, the team looks at the first two positions, while also addressing some of the objections and concerns to school choice. Counties and Cities should move to funding students rather than systems, and allow funding to travel to schools based on the decisions of families rather than bureaucrats; Currently existing public schools should no longer have geographic exclusivity in attendance zones, and should allow for choice throughout a county or city; The pod ends with a few quick thoughts including some commentary on recent international elections.   Relevant links from this episode include: Chris brought up the movie “Accepted.” See more on that here.
