Schwenkfelders, Faith, and the Peter Wentz Farmstead

from Centrally Speaking · host Ministerial Staff at Central Schwenkfelder Church

The historic Peter Wentz Farmstead is known to represent colonial life from the 18th century in the Philadelphia area. While first settled by Peter and Rosanna Wentz in 1744, the farm was purchased by Melchior Schultz, a Schwenkfelder Minister, in 1794. Generations of the Schultz family continued to live and farm here until 1969, when Montgomery County purchased the property.  While the Farmstead represents early Pennsylvania German practices that were typical to this region, aspects of the Christian faith can be seen, too. In this podcast, we interview LeAnne Sykes, a historian and guide,  to discuss some of the history at the Farmstead and also to consider the faith that is on display. The Peter Wentz Farmstead is located next to the Central Schwenkfelder Church in Montgomery County, PA (https://www.montgomerycountypa.gov/929/Peter-Wentz-Farmstead). It is famous for a visit from George Washington before and after the Battle of Germantown in October of 1777.#PeterWentz  #PeterWentzSchwenkfelder  #Schwenkfelderheritage  #faithearlyAmericanhistory  #earlyamericanchristianity #MelchiorSchultzCentrally Speaking is a ministry of Central Schwenkfelder Church in Lansdale, PA  USA.
