The Sciamachy instrument on ESA's Envisat satellite is a powerful monitor of global air pollution. This programme provides an overview of recent interesting observations. These include the rapid increase of pollution in China over the past ten years, notably of nitrogen dioxide in the Beijing area, and unexplained sources of the greenhouse gas methane in the Ganges valley in India.
