from The Lumen Christi Institute · host The Lumen Christi Institute

A lecture by Stephen M. Barr (University of Delaware) at the University of Chicago on April 9, 2015. In many ways, the supposed conflict between science and religion is really a conflict between “scientific materialism” and religion. The lecture reviews the story of the relation between Christianity and science, discusses several discoveries of the twentieth century (primarily in physics), and argues that these are more consonant with the traditional Judeo-Christian view of the cosmos and of human beings than with scientific materialism Stephen M. Barr is a theoretical particle physicist at the University of Delaware, where he is Professor of Physics and Astronomy and Director of the Bartol Research Institute. He has lectured widely on the relation of science and religion and is the author of Modern Physics and Ancient Faith, A Student’s Guide to Natural Science, and Science and Religion: The Myth of Conflict.
